If you can get insurance on your bike on L plates then theres nothing stopping you from using that for your lessons with the instructors providing you can get the bike there and back without riding it.

You can only ride a bike bigger than a 125cc bike providing your are accompanied by a qualified instructor and in radio contact at all times.

On a side note though insurance company I have looked into ask if I hold a full or provisional license so good luck on insuring a bike you're not legally covered to ride at any time.

Always go to the legislation.

Crib notes: provisional entitlement is just as valid for riding a Hayabusa as a CG125, as long as you follow the conditions above.

If an insurers covers you, and you follow the terms of your license, you're covered.

Incidentally, if your DAS instructor isn't "carrying" his 65(4) certificate, then technically you are riding without a license. Show some love and ask to see it next time you're out. Wink

Providing you can get the bike too and from the instructing school without riding it there yourself.

To be honest it would cost the same to use their bike so why not just do that?

Worth asking if the instructor will come to you, as driving instructors do. There's no one-size-fits-all rule, as long as you're willing to pay for their time.

Leaving aside the problem of finding an insurer who'll cover you on a DAS-class bike... why on earth would you do it?

You'll get nobbed on insurance, you're risking dropping your own bike while learning, and you're committing to a big-boy bike without any experience of riding one. Also, you've got no chance of getting test rides, so you'll be limited to sitting on bikes and going "VROOM VROOM!" before buying.

All this needs is "Should I get a Gixxer 600 or will I get bored too quick while learning on it?"
