Fucked my foot up the other day ,hoped it was just a bad sprain but i think it's worse, been two days now and it's getting no better been on the old ibrofen and deep heat ,took me a hour to hobble to the shop today (300 metres)not good.
I think i have torn a ligament 5 years ago i fell through a roof a had a compound fracture and torn ligaments to the same foot the signs look the same (bummer).
The problem is, if i go to hospital i know they are going to diagnose the same symtoms,IE rest up and take it easy and time off at work ,which i can not afford at the mo and also no bike ,and my friend from the states is coming over soon for a little tour of the uk. not a happy bunny .
Anyway just thought i'd share my woes with you all (moaning) |

Go hospital = no work, free time, but cant go far/out on bike
Don't go to hospital = pain, can go where you want now, but when your foot is fucked and un healable later on then you can't go no where without crutches/wheelchair
Choice is yours... ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Hospitals = bad place where they diagnose reasons why you shouldn't be out on bike? ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

The main thing I know about tissue/ muscle injuries is RICE. Rest, ice, compression and elevation. It you do the opposite of these it can well make it worst so it's your choice at the end of the day. I'd get it looked at the hospital, and they might be able to help it get better faster, or give you details of how to help it, or how to not make it any worse.
Hope it's feeling better soon.

It is indeed, but they do this I guess for your own safety. Yes you can get your license taken away for medical reason (mines on its way off soon ) but there is reasoning behind these decision and they only do it when they actually need to. It's to protect yourself and other road users as no one would be very happy if I crashed into them due to my problems which would have a direct affect on me using the roads. No one would be very pleased or happy if they were crashed into by someone who was not fit to be on the roads, and the doctors and the DVLA had done nothing to stop it. They ban you for basic stuff like sight problems, risk of heart attacks, alcohol or drug abuse, but they also deal with more complicated stuff like brain injuries where although there is a minimum ban time, all cases are dealt with individually as no two are the same so they can't all have the same problems. I'm not wanting to use my bike at the moment so yeah, sure they can have my license if I want it as I'm in no need of it at this time, and I don't want or feel safe using it until the doctors have said it's safe enough. Sorry for rambling on a bit, but this is something semi-relevant to the topic and it's something which is playing on my mind quite a bit.
If the doctors suggest not doing something it's for your own health and benefit, not theirs, so it's annoying for them to have patients refusing to help themselves get better as it's meaning more work in the future for them, but it doesn't affect them directly so it's no skin off their back, they can only use their knowledge and suggest, and in my views doctors do tend to know what they're talking about so if they tell you something it's for your own good, and makes no difference to them really if you decide to do it or not. Sorry once again for the long (and probably boring) post. |

Medical student are not allowed to do a doctors work. You might be asked if you mind a medical student sitting in when you're seen by the doctor, and unless there is a real reason why not to, then it's a good plan as with no medical students there will be no doctors in years to come.
I think you might be making reference to junior doctors who are allowed and do see patients on their own. I have had experience in hospital of being seen regulary by junior doctors and more senior doctors. They have both been as medically competent as each other, but the thing which set them apart from me was the junior doctors were more than willing and happy to explain what stuff meant to me, and to explain what was causing the problems, why it was not actually a problem/ why it was a problem, what will happen now with it, and basically explain in enough understandable (non-medical!) language. This does make the difference as fair enough if yours whatever is hurting or you're having problems with it, and it's seen by a doctor and he says something which might as well be in French, but it's more useful and nicer to know what it means. Fair enough they don't have the years of experience behind them, but that also means they're coming with a completely clear mind, and won't be judging or classing you on past experience, they'll be judging and classing you on what there actually is there.
Both the physios who I've been seen by in hospital have been junior physio and if their badge did not say so I would no know as, as far as I'm concerned they both knew their stuff and they both did a good job (I have gone from being in a wheelchair unable to walk, to being able to walk. Okay not 100% right, but it's better than not being able to at all).
Give people a chance. Yes it might say "junior" on their badge but that doesn't mean they cannot help you, and in my experience they do help you and with the doctors the level of medical care has been the same with junior doctors as normal doctors, but the junior doctors have stood out as they're willing to explain what stuff means in simple language.
Sorry again for another long post, but well people moaning about medical "Junior" staff is fair enough, but I thought I might as well give the view that shows they're not all as bad as some make them out to be. |

I have only ever broken one bone, it was my scaphoid (or some such spelling of a similair sounding word) I broke it playing basketball, I didn't know it, it was less painfull that a sprained wrist, it was only a small fracture, to the extent that they nearly missed it on the X-ray, but apparently had it continued to move about and so on, it would have got worse, and been harder to correct and refuse the bone wrongly.
I only went to the hospital because I mentioned the wrist to my doctor while seeing him about something else, he did some stuff with my thumb and decided it wasn't just a sprain, so in I went.
Long story short, I don't want to sound like I over react to any slight pain or ill feeling, but it is better safe than sorry, I doubt my injury would have made my hand fall off or crippled me or anything drastically, but sorting out a badly fused small bone in my wrist VS getting it in plaster for six weeks and being worry free, I know which I chose.
Of course I was at school at the time, and any excuse to do less work is good in my book, obviously with a real job, and stuff you have other concerns.
Your choice, but I would say check it out to be sure.
Still, hope it isn't anything bad and you recover fine however you want to ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>

As with any other case of human interaction, the way you behave towards doctors effects the way they behave towards you (I nearly used the word 'treat' in that sentence then thought better of it).
A friend of mine who is a doctor tells a story of how 'difficult' patients would get dealt on A&E (quite a few years ago now and in a different country... ). Apparently, said patients would get a harmless but briefly painful injection of saline (salt solution) in the bum... ____________________ "It's all about dislocating expectation"
