Roads arent a race track but lets face it we all have a competitive edge in us.
So i was sitting at some lights today when a seat appears beside me edgeing across the line, the lights go green and we both gun it. I hit around 8-9k revs and go to flick uip into second, clutch out back on the accelerator and the bike just revs REALLY loudly and the green neutral light flickers on the dash. Come off the accelerator, clutch in and giving it a harder kick, still giveds the same results. After a 3 try and a real push up it finally goes into gear, but this isn't an isolated incident. The bikes done 7.5k miles and its going in for its 8( miles service this weekend or next.
Im not rough with my bike but i do like to open her up every now and then, but this first gear problem really puts me off, and when i do go for it, 50% of the time it results in a rather red glow from inside my helmet at such an embarassing outcome.
I have posted here on this matter before but i just wondered if there were any more ideas or anything i could mention at thne service, if i should without them charging me hours of labour to take the bike apart for not a lot of results.
As i understand it too hard a kick will damage second, and often it is just a smooth flivk through to second, but add acceleration and high revs and it just isnt happenning [/u] ____________________ Ybr125(10)>CBR600fY(00)>Bandit650N(58) |

Too hard a kick will damage anything. Have you tried pausing for a moment with weight on the lever to see if it helps it fo fully engage?
Anyway - it could be anything but most likely is worn shift fork, shift drum, shift fork rod or gearbox shaft.
What bike is it? Some models have common issues. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Racing and using the clutch? Pitiful
Just clutchless gear change, see if thats better? I haven't used the clutch for a while tbh, only when stopping and pulling away.. |

I could try a pause, only thing is is if it doesnt work it sounds like a mini explosion in my gear box lool. Its a Bandit 650 k8 naked, if thats any help!
And as for not using a clutch i generally dont over 2nd, or unless im carrying a pillion, but amidst all the arguements of how bad clutchless shifting is or isnt for your bike i thought the general consenses was for 1st to 2nd use a clutch? I could well be all wrong ____________________ Ybr125(10)>CBR600fY(00)>Bandit650N(58) |

Most people use the clutch for every gear,by going clutchless once moving ,your just stressing the box and the clutch. After a while box internals wear and start jumping out of gear.If you want to ride it like a track bike you should expect rapid wear of the box/clutch. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. I know this thread sin't about clutchless gear changes, but as I understand it, unless it feels/sounds bad its probably not doing any damage to your gear box? Now I can be rather naive, but the clutchless gear changes for me are much quicker, smoother and quieter than clutched ones, it feels completely natural, and at no point does it feel like I'm doing any damage.
The 1st to second while accelerating hard though is another matter, when it finally 'clicks' in its more of a bang, I dont even want to think about whats happening inside the gear box lol, but it is a bike, bikes do go quickly so surely it should be able to do this right? Its not everyday I fly away from the lights, infact the majority of my riding is motorway nowadays, and both on and off the motorway I try to keep my riding as smooth as possible, looking far ahead and planning, rarely using brakes and just trying to boost fuel consumption really lol.
As I always say though, my bike is my main and only form of transport, I spent rather a lot of money on it, for a very low mileage example to try and ensure I'd have a reliable bike to commute on, and until I sort out whats going on in the gearbox I guess its no more tearing away for me! ____________________ Ybr125(10)>CBR600fY(00)>Bandit650N(58) |
