Anyone who has used one of these know how useful they are.
I'm looking to buy a good quality one at a good price.
Anyone recommend one?

cheers

what chain size?

I have used this for 525 size chains with no problems, although I did break the handle off! Just use a spanner of mole grips instead for the handle, other than that quite well made

I've used the one in that advert, although it seems to be sold under a few different names.

I've probably cut and rivetted about 20 chains with mine, mostly 525 and 520. I broke a few cutting pins, so now I use an angle grinder to just take away the rivet head before cutting the chain and I've had no problems since. I've only used it on DID chains.

That's strange. As a lot of people have reported the cutters breaking. I wonder if it is just shoddy build quality on these?

To be fair, the original pin lasted for ages. I lent it to someone else and he broke the pin. The replacement I ordered broke quite quickly, since using the angle grinder for a few seconds it's been fine since.

The pins are very hard, but they break if you don't get them exactly central on the chain linkpin. Any sideways pressure and they snap, like a drill bit would.

yes its a good idea to grind the pin heads off when breaking the chain, you can't re use pins anyway so you may as well grind them off!

If you're getting the grinder out why not just take the link out with it?

I have that one from the same place.

I had no issues with it, did everything I wanted it to etc etc. Probably wouldn't bother using it to break chains, just cut the chain off however you want (grinder, saw etc etc).

Lent it to my meat fisted brother and he snapped a few attachments. He also destroyed his master link so I think it is fair to assume this was operator error rather than mechanical failure.
