Not the swimming shorts.

On the way home today I was going into a 30 limit a bit fast so slowed down. Next time I looked at my speedometer, it was at 0. So I pulled up and found that the cable had become loose and come completely out of the socket on the front wheel. I couldn't seem to get it in so, realising that the end of the cable would just be dangling in the air and not hitting the wheel nor road, I rode the 5-10 minutes home.

When I got home I managed to get the cable in so thought, "Oh it'll be fine again". So I went up and down the road and it remained at 0. The cable is all the way in (as far as I can tell). There is a screw just underneath the socket, so I tried undoing that but it's very tight and I don't want to force it in case I round it off.

The bike is a 2002 Honda CG M.

When the camera has charged I will take a couple of photos and edit them into here.

I'd just like to see if anyone has any ideas before I take the wheel apart.

Thanks.

you may possibly find that the screw is there to lock the cable into the drive, you probs don't have the cable all the way in an if that is the case you will need to undo the screw and remove it, put the cable in to the hole fully, then re fit the screw.

Or its somit completely different! Very Happy

Managed to get the screw out and I think you are right. The end of the cable has a threaded edge where it seems that the cable should hold it in place. However, the cable isn't going all the way in and I don't know why.

If it looks like this then yup, you need to remove the screw....

Sorted now. CHR15 off here told me to take it out at both ends to see if it rotates, so I did that and it does. In this process the cable at the wheel end came out a bit. With it being free to move I thought this wouldn't make a difference but I put it back in anyway and it just went all the way in this time. So I put the screw in and tested it up the road and it works. I think that the cable hasn't been in properly since I bought the bike about 4 months ago Laughing
