I took off the sproket cover off the bike just to change the clutch cabble cleaned it out it was 3" in places.

Now freewheeling the bike back / forward I get loudish clicking , the chain and the wheel was not remoed, checked the lining up marks on the back wheel are right.

I undone the bolt and slackened the chain a little and in with haynes manual and clicking went away now back again.

It sounds line the chain is trying to come off the back sprocket but obviousy it cant any suggestions

How old is your chain?

Does it have any tight spots?

Are the sprockets standard?

Might sound stupid, but have you put the spacer in the correct side? I made that mistake and wondered why the chain was being a bastard.

Edit: Sorry, I can't read. Your chain will make a noise for the simple reason it's a chain. All I'd suggest is to check the links and that it's sitting on the sprockets properly. Also, make sure there is no slack at the top of the chain and you have no tight spots. (Put the bike onto the main stand and rotate the wheel a quarter a turn at a time and check the chain tension. It should be equal or nearly equal all of the way around).

Give it a lube up and see if that stops it.

My chain on Renthal sprockets gets a bit noisy when its dry.
