I noticed it because a streak of oil came down from the carbs onto the frame.
Bike is 2000 zx9r
Thanks for advice.. ____________________ Mungel

overfilled oil from recent oil change
or your piston rings are nackered, causing crank case pressure.

Yes a compression test would indicate rings.
Does it smoke at all? If after a long run you give it a good rev (to redline) do you see any BLUE smoke? Not black.
If you see blue smoke it means oil is getting into the combustion chamber and I would suspect the rings are gone. ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

How much oil was there in the airbox?
The crankcase breather vents into the airbox on most bikes and can casue some oil to be vented out under normal condtions on some bikes but it normally not more than a few table spoons worth. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Took it for a run and got it up to temp.
Revved the tits off it a few times, no sign of smoke from the exhaust, black or blue...
I guess a compression test is next on the cards. ____________________ Mungel

i'm not implying it's using any, i was suggesting the level may be high. Did you check it when the bike was on the sidestand or a paddock stand? ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. In your picture, it looks very clean and clear for engine oil that's spent 3.5k miles in a sportsbike.
If the stuff in the engine is black and sooty and that stuff is clean and clear, I'd suggest it's possible it didn't come from the engine. But then where? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
