Innertube causing tyre warpage?

Hiya guys, basically fitted a new tyre. While It's jacked up and I spin the wheel, the tyre seems to be a bit out of shape due to the innertube. How much can it be out of shape by, as it's about 3mm or so. You can see it pretty clearly as the wheel turns. Is this pretty fatal, or nothing to worry about?

Will probably whip the tyre off if it will cause problems, and re-fit the tube. I should imagine it's twisted maybe?? Or possibly just the tyre warped a bit?

You sure the tyre is on the rim properly all the way around ?
Sounds to me like it isn't.

hi mate.im a tyre fitter and id guess that as stated the tyre isnt mounted properly.id deflate the inner tube,break the bead on both sides of the tyre and squirt in a mix of washing up liquid and water.inflate slowly and check that the circle mark round the tyre is perfectly even as you rotate the wheel.hope this helps

This. ^^

But make sure you wash the washing up liquid off using hot water afterwards. Too much lube and the tyre can spin on the rim leading to the valve tearing off the tube and a blowout.

It would be better practice to break both beads down fully, apply tyre soap to the beads with a brush and re-inflate quickly with the valve core out to pop the beads back on.

There is a chance you might have pinched the tube so keep an eye on the pressure.

Hi, tubes fine as I always check it while pumping it up to make sure it doesn't get caught outside the bead. Just I guess lack of lube stopped it seating on the bead. Will check it over tomorrow and get back to you lot. Thumbs Up Karma for the peeps.

Oh and yeah, I'll make sure to wash it off. Heard horror stories of people using washing up liquid and it doesnt evapourate, just to have the tyre spin on the wheel ripping the valve off the tube. Karma

Aint having any of it. One part is refusing point black to bead on the rim properly. Leaving me with a tyre shaped like a banana. Put a lot of pressure in with a footpump but I don't think it's enough. Gonna take it down the petrol station later and use their air pump. Hopefully will blow it onto the bead.

Is there such a thing as tyres having to be binned because they are shaped wrong? Or will it be because its not on the bead?

Some are a total arse to get onto the bead.

Take the valve core out and inflate it quickly with a compressor to double the normal pressure, it should pop onto the rim with a loud bang. You can then let the air out, replace the valve core and inflate to the correct pressure.

They CAN blow out on you when you do this but very rarely. It is an accepted technique for seating a tyre.

Hiya, had a quick read about and 60psi seems to be about right to pop it on. Pop the core off? That can only be done on tubeless rims?

Yep took it to the petrol station, used washing up liquid, smashed it up to 55 PSI and it slipped right on the bead. Didn't 'pop' though but fitted fine. Checked out all at home and all is well.

No the valve core. That's the bit up the middle. The valve itself is called a Schrader valve and is exactly the same in a tubed or tubeless tyre, it's just put in a different place.

You unscrew the middle part of the valve which is known as the valve core using a special tool which leaves you with a big wide tube to blow the air in rapidly while seating the bead.

This is a Schrader valve. The bit in the middle is the valve core. Notice it has a screw thread on it:

The end with the notch in slots over the flats of the valve core and you unscrew it. You often get these tools included with a footpump, they can be plastic.

Failing that, a very fine set of needlenose pliers will do it or an old fine screwdriver with the end chopped off and a notch hacksawed in the end.
