I’ve been watching this over the week, when i was looking at this TLR.

What am i missing here?? The bike has low mileage and looks to be in good nick, so why hasn’t anyone bid on it??

Ebay clicky

Lack of oil in the bearings? Perhaps that's why it's making a 'cheap' noise.

Seriously, I've noticed a few like this, it's because it's old hat, not the latest and greatest, the RSV4's where it's at! This makes the RSV a cracking buy at the moment. That one's 10 years old too.

Can't see anything wrong with that one.

The Mille's always been a very underrated bike IMO. They've always been comparitively cheap second hand.

RSV is a better bike than a TL IMO. You DO need to be tall though, as they have a very high seat. If you're not short then its an excellent choice.

They are always cheap.

Probably an aprilia reliability concern tbh but most owners I have spoken to haven't had any real problems.

Not that tall. I reckon the 675 might be higher or wider....

Dunno, I've ridden a 675 but the early RSV was too tall for me to even sit on.

Really?

I can flat foot on the RSV, and found the 675 a little higher. I guess it was because it was a triple rather than a twin and therefore slightly wider.

I can flat foot a 675 but could barely get one foot down on the RSV-R.

Only thing I am aware of with these, is that they like to be hooked up to life support when not being used, and they have an annoying top speed logger on it which I believe can't be cleared unless plugged into a computer.

Looks good, great spec too at that price. They are fairly tall bikes but at 5'8" I can manage either both feet on tippy toes or one flat foot.

Seller seems like the usual ebay illiterate but the bike will be ok if looked after and certainly a much better prospect than some of the generic bikes at the same price.

How is the max speed logger a problem? The device is not home office approved, and doesn't have a time, date or location stamp on it. Simply not possible to use as evidence in a court of law. Also used to be able to reset it via the clocks on my 2002 model.

They are a bit heavy on batteries and the starting system, but you can upgrade the battery to a 14Ah one to improve it. They don't always need to be left on trickle charge, but it's a good idea if you're not using it for a while.

Going a bit over the top using a computer just to press the 'R' button the the clocks for you, methinks.

If there aren't any hidden surprises that bike looks OK. The main issue I have with that is what Villers said. Why the bloody hell didn't he at least wheel it out the garage to get some better pictures?

Edit: Just so you know, it's a 2001 R, so only has a single seat rear subframe - you won't be able to take pillions or luggage on it. Aprilia only gave the R model a double seat rear subframe from 2002.

Yeah, seems about the going rate for them these days. Alot of bike for not alot of money.

I don't think there's much difference height wise between and RSV and a 675 really..

Also, even after spending £75 on an uprated battery, if it stands for more than about 4-5 days not on the opti-mate, it doesn't like starting. Although now it's got the new battery, it only needs a quick 10min trickle charge and it's off again.

Other than that, no problems, and I'm impressed all round, build quality is good, it's easy to take apart and seems well put together!

Ive always been worried about the batteries and starting on my 06 but I will only put it on charge if its to be left for two weeks or more, after a fortnight it will still start no bother though. This might be helped by the fact it doesnt have a battery eating alarm on it.

There will be a few standard issues and mods to probably sort out with that bike (if not already done) and a look through RSVzone would be a good idea if you are seriously considering it!
