Shop around. this is the one thing you MUST do. My quote last year came in at £600 TPO. I shopped around and got it for £180. CIA quoted me £600, and i managed to get them down to £200 before they gave up. So they same insurance company can afford to do it for cheaper, they just want to see if you'll just pay up at first.

Arrow Get rid of all those extras that you don't want or need. Ask them about everything thats included, and tell them to get rid of stuff you don't need, like breakdown cover, for instance. This may or may not make a massive difference, but sometimes it can

Arrow Remember, Fully Comp is sometimes the cheapest cover! So don't just punch TPFT into the comparison sites, check all levels of cover on each one

Arrow Secure your bike with a reputed security device, like an almax chain if you can afford it. Or a garag if you have one. Just getting it off the road overnight into a garden or something can drop your premiums as some insurers can put this through as "driveway".

Arrow Never put your original details into price comparison sites. You will find that after a few sites, all the prices tend to level out for the sake of consistency. It doesn't look very good if Confused give you a quote for £500 with CIA, and then Comparethemarket gives you a quote for £100 with the same insurer. So use made up details, with DOBs a few days off, and Addresses a few doors down, and fake telephone numbers. Once you are happy with the price you have got, move on to the next step

Arrow DONT CLICK BUY. Ring up that insurer, and ask them about all the stuff thats included in the insurance (step 1 basically)

Arrow Tell them you'll think about it, and call them back.

Arrow Now call the second lowest insurance company and tell them what your best price is. They'll try and beat it. Play them off against eachother, keep to-ing and fro-ing. The price will drop gradually.

Arrow The price you get now, is your true price. Once you're happy, go for it. try to pay for the full year in one go, you'll save money that way.

------------------------------------------------

Other tips

Arrow Learn the Mileage categories. Generally, the lower the mileage, the cheaper the insurance. But this is not always he case. Insurance takes a step up when you go over 3000miles per year, but I have known people's insurance to drop a bit when they go over the 10000miles mark.

Arrow Your occupation means a lot for your price. Use this link here to tweak your job title in order to get cheaper insurance. Eg, you fix computers, does Software Engineer, or Computer engineer give you the cheaper quote? the link below will tell you

Job Title Selector

Arrow Buy a sensible bike and don't mod it. Insurance companies don't like performance mods, so try and shy away from this.

-------------

Hope this helps pal. Insurance for me, is a 3 day jobby. its a long process, but can save you bucks

I'm a software developer... sounds more boring than "General dog's body that does everything including a bit of the above".

And I agree with the over the 10k miles comment... mine's up at about 13k and my insurance is pretty cheap...

Is your insurance cheaper if you drive a car? I got a quote for a cg125 on CBT and it came up as £120 a year TPO, on Devitt i think it was.
