Just bought C&S kit and failed to notice that it says it is a VM chain and sprocket kit (mod), and not the 532 fitted as standard.

Mod? Confused I just wanted a C&S kit to fit my thunderace.

Can anyone enllighten me to the difference? It's still going to fit though right??

I think the VM part refers to the year the chain was manufactured. It helps to stop getting a chain that has been stored in the back of a shop for years.

Please note the (I think) bit.

You have a pic or a link for the kit?

does it say mod on the packet or on the website?

EDIT:

like this?

I reckon the standard chain pitch on your bike is 532 but the kit is a different more widely available pitch such as 530.

So long as the sprockets match the chain and the chain is strong enough (it will be) then the pitch doesnt really matter. Americans commonly use a smaller pitch chain to save weight. If you bought it as a complete kit then I wouldn't worry about it, it might be different than stock but the sprockets will match the chain so it doesn't matter.

Strangely enough it's the kit from the site that you mentioned today on another thread. I Karma you for it as the site is very good and I didn't even know it existed.

Complete fine print blindness Laughing I just saw it, checked the application and ordered it.

Doh, edited post as you were replying.

DID50VM appears to be a 530 pitch rather than 532. As I said though it is quite common to use a narrower pitch to save weight, so long as the sprockets are also narrower it is fine.

Ok, cheers Thumbs Up

I must admit I've always gone for the direct replacement size and I think if this chain does what it says on the tin then I may be converted as it will save me a fortune. Very Happy

532 was only used on a few bikes, it is common to replace it with 530 pitch. Since you have the kit with the matching sprockets its perfectly fine.

530 pitch is perfectly good.
