So after some scrotes tried (and failed) to steal my bike, i've got it back.

Not too much damage, though it will take a while for me to get it back to how it should be.

Basically, fix ignition wires, fix underseat fairing, rip front fairing off, headlight, clocks and bars, and that'll be it.

Oh, and a paint too.

Here's pics of how it's sitting now.

Fuel reacted with the paint, left a nice big mark.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5521.jpg?t=1294492355

GPZ sticker is nearly off, and the indicator cracked the plastic
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5520.jpg?t=1294492353

The snapped the panel here to get to wiring (we think) so that'll need fixed
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5519.jpg?t=1294492351

Headlight is now held in with the wires, all the lugs have snapped, and the fairing is cracked
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5518.jpg?t=1294492351

Doesn't look too bad, but it's just hanging on. it's coming off. end of.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5517.jpg?t=1294492351

Lever is bent, new one is in the post. also, the mirror mount has snapped so i'll need a new one of them too.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5516.jpg?t=1294492350

And the hardest to repair bit, the wiring. they've stripped the plastic from the ignition barrel end, so even if they did join the right wires together, they wouldn't have gotten a spark.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/_DSC5515.jpg?t=1294492349

So i have my work cut out for me... should be fun!

I'll also have to see what i can do about the steering lock... is that repairable at all?

Cheers

Well i can get the key in and flick it between on and off... Not tried the lock yet. I think they'll have just pushed the bars round to snap the part that locks to the frame.

Cheers

So let me get this bit right.
The cut the wires from the ignition to the main loom, then joined the wires up on the ignition side, not the main loom-y bit? Fucking mugs.

Glad you got it back Smile

Glad you got it back and that it's not completely wrecked. Should be able to get it ridable with minimal cost/effort even if it will never look quite as pretty...

So i'm having a little bit of trouble with the wiring just now... Might be a break further down the line, but i've got no live wires at the ignition barrel... (says the old man that's working on it just now till i get the time).
Gonna go have a look for myself at some point, but for now i'm stuck till i get paid in 2 weeks.

Here's how it's sitting just now.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/DSC00065.jpg?t=1294920093

I'm thinking 'fighter. You thinkin' 'fighter?

Parts i still need to buy:

Headlight - £50
wheel bearings - £20
renthal bars - £40
Scottoiler refill - £7
oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs - £60
Gasket set - £60
Chain and Sprocket set - £85
2-1 Stainless exhaust - £250

And i might as well replace the brake disks, so that's another £100.

Repairs to the plastics will cost me nout, as i'm doing them myself.

Later in the year i'll have to buy and fit a new rear shock, the one on it is getting old and worn out...
And while i'm at that, i might as well do the forks as well... harder springs will be required though, as i'm a fat bastard and they dive quite a bit as it is.

Also, moar presents Mr. Green

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/DSC00066.jpg?t=1295047667

That's a handlebar clamp for the Renthals, an alarm, and a new brake lever.

One month, and i can start fixing it all.

Fighter? God no. Sorry mate one thought just went through my head and that was
'shed'

Get some side panels on that thing. Will smarten it up 100 fold.

Obviously get the main bits sorted first. if you was going to streetfighter you'd have to sort out all those little bits and pieces. e.g cooler tank, wiring.

I'm sure itd look much better with fairing. Thumbs Up

I'm not too bothered about how it'll look, i just want it to work.

I'm getting a bit too comfortable behind a fairing, and i'm finding myself at 90 before i even know it.

So i want a naked. i'd go buy something already nekkid, but i'd rather spend money sorting everything, so i know it's in good condition.

Plus, my dad will buy it from me if it's a 'fighter, rather than with a fairing.

Thumbs Up

This will be my second bike, if i can find a decent IL4.... so tbh it doesn't matter how it looks, i'm riding the thing, not admiring it.

I've got to get the power washer out, and clean up all the mud and shit from where they dumped it...

And then i'll be respraying the tank to a proper gloss black, and repair the side panels and spray them gloss black too, instead of the satin black they are just now.

Should look fine once it's finished. Thumbs Up

Dunc,

I have that alarm on both the CBR and the RS.... its very sensitive!

No bugger will attempt to nick it with that on there, I wired the LED in full view of the public... just to add that bit of "dont touch me, im alarmed" protection Laughing

So today i had a look at the wiring.

Turns out it was a blown fuse at the startor relay... I replaced that, and hey presto, we have ignition!

so now that the engine is running nicely, i set to work on the brakes.

Got the front caliper off, and after much struggling, freed off and moving nicely.

Then had to wedge it in a vice to get the pistons back in, which was difficult to say the least.

Once that was done, new pads in, and new braided lines, and new fluid, done and dusted.

Went for a wee ride round the estate, made sure they were bedded in and took it back up.

Next up is the Handlebars, just got to mount them now, and find a way of mounting the clocks.

Then i'll be working on the rear caliper, tyre and bearings, and also the chain & sprockets.

So I left the bike with my grandad for 2 days... I went to see it today and this is what i found.

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs749.ash1/164069_1665062240159_1645368025_1455718_74121_n.jpg

Sorry about the crappy photos - only had the phone and it was dark.

So, god knows where the bars came from, but he's fitted them, and he's also went over the whole front end of the bike with a cloth and soapy water - it's spotless.

Just got to mount the clocks, and get a headlight for the thing - i'm thinking the twin dominator lights will look good on it.

Going to work more on the back this week, take the wheel off and sand down the frame and clean it all up... it's a tad rusty, and i'll need to get the new tyre and C&S fitted.

Anyway, i'm pretty happy with how the bike's looking just now, wee bit more work and it'll be finished! Mr. Green

Cheers

A mate has them on his 'Fightered bandit, they look good but he says they're shit for seeing where you're going... Then again he has not upgraded any of the wiring and going from 1 bulb to two will need a bit more power.

Since you are digging around in the wiring loom anyway then putting relays and decent gauge cables in will be worth it.

Cheers pax. Unfortunately he doesn't drink so i can't get him anything like that. but technically i'm doing him a favour, he's now retired and has 2 old British bikes he takes care of, so having a challenge to work on keeps him out the house.

Hopefully it's not going to give me any more nasty surprises - need to change the rear shock, so that should be interesting seeing how seized the bolts are Laughing

How can you fighter an already naked bike? Laughing i'd just call it 'tastefully modded' Wink

I was thinking about getting an HID conversion kit, but the only one i can find on ebay is confusing.

Would i need to buy 2 for the seperate bulbs?

The light i had on the bike before was pish, mixed with a black visor, I couldn't see anything at night anyway, so i've kind of got used to riding blind Laughing

But if i could get that HID kit on it i'd be happy.

Cheers

The bars look cool.

Why not ditch the stock clocks and go for something like this that I got for my newly naked SV650 (when I had it).

I like that....

Where could i obtain said object?

I'm on a crappy budget, bout £250 every month spare to spend on the bike...

Always wondered how the speedo works on these types of speedos, and are the wires to connect it up the same?

Cheers

I think I paid about £50 for that, second hand. But there are lots of similar ones on eBay for cheap as long as you have a cable driven speedo.

I was restricted to that for the SV because it has an electric pulse driven speedo.

Also, I have a bit of a passion hate for those twin dominator headlights. Personally I'd go for a small, single bates headlight. Looks classic, classy not "I tried to do a streetfighter, but it just looks like a normal bike with a crap headlight on".

EDIT: This is the cheapy one I was thinking of: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-UNIVERSAL-CROME-SPEEDO-MOTORCYLE-CLOCK-DIAL-ZXR-ER-/270622045313?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f0254b481#ht_919wt_905

That's cheap, but i need something with a bit more functionality.

Could i switch the bike from cable driven to using magnets and a sensor?

If so, i fancy this one - okay price and has everything i need...

Looks decent, one of the difficult things with making a decent 'streetfighter' is making the clocks not look shit.

Something I never managed to do with my XJ600.

https://www.gaz-racing.co.uk/images/vehicle_191.JPG

I would say just bung a cheap pushbike speedo on there, but finding one with a decent backlight (or backlight at all) is nigh on impossible.
