I fit a replacement indicator relay module to my SV650 K3 last night and all worked as expected.

On my way to work this morning I noticed the indicators weren't working. However, they seemed to work at low speed with the clutch disengaged.

When I got home I investigated further. The indicators work fine below 1.5k revs approx but fail over that rev count.

The reason for replacing the relay was that the sidestand detector had stopped working - the indicators were fine.

I have bulb indicators at the front and LED at the rear. I had originally wired in some resistors to the rear indicators and when I remove these, the indicators still flash at the correct speed which is highly unusual.

It was bought from an ebay seller for about half the price of an OEM module. It's actually lablled for a bandit but I'm assuming it's the same inside. It was a bit of a tight squeeze and the quality isn't quite up to scratch compared to the original unit.

It's almost as if it the relay cuts out if the alternator gives it too much voltage/current?

I've contacted the seller and he's got no idea - asked me to send it back and find an original instead (great solution!)

When I slot the original relay back in, the indicators work as usual.

Any ideas?

If its square and plastic, its probably a chrystal times solid state flasher, which wont mind the lower wattage LED bulbs at the back.

If its round and metal, it'll be an electro-mech flasher, timed by the gap between the relay contacts and the strength of the spring, hence load dependent and you'll need the balast resistors for the LED bulbs to stop it blinking too fast.

Tripping out when the engine is revved.... does sound like some kind of protection, but unlikely in the indy flasher. Unless its seeing an AC signal of some sort due to a regulator fault, and non constant input means its not 'sensing' being turned on.

But, I'm struggling with the fuzzy logic here, or why having a side stand inhibit switch fault, you change the indicator flasher?
Be like having a bald back tyre and fitting a new chain & sprockets?

Ah, Tef, I think it's specific to Suzuki's (or at least Bandit/SVs) - this module contains the indicator relay, sidestand relay and neutral position diode all in one 7 pin unit.
