Tyre heat cycles, someone mentioned on here that after 3 cycles the tyres are f**ked. Is this only for track tyres or does that include road tyres too?

If that was the case, then the majority of bike rubber being used on the road would be fucked all ready...

Just for track or we would all be a lot poorer as stated.

Thanks

Only for track tyres, and only if you're a riding god. 99.5% of track riders are ok to use tyres for more than this without affecting their times.

As for the road, it's not a problem at all.

yeah, i'd say maybe only for top - notch race tyres. dad has a set of (seperate wets + dry slicks) pirelli race / slicks on his cbr600rr track bike, consinering changing them after a whole season.

bless him Laughing

As said, it's only really for the race tyres like Racetecs, Supercorsas etc.

Dont let it worry you imo. I've never heard anyone (like officially from Pirelli etc) say how much a heat cycle affects the grip, I mean it may only lose 5-10% of it's grip after 10+ cycles. Thats clearly a lot if you're racing, when every percent is needed, but nothing on a track day when most of us mere mortals will never get to 50% of their speed.

Besides, I've got friends who run top of the fast group on fairly knackered Racetecs and have no issues, so I'm pretty sure I can manage in Inters with them.

I'm glad everyone is worried tbh, means theres a lot of tyres thats only completed a hand full of laps going for 25% of their original value Thumbs Up
