Alright gangsters.

After much insurance craziness, I have found out that to insure a gixxer k6 600 it's £900, but to insure a gixxer k6-k7 750 it's £300. LOL!

So basically, it's time to buy a GSX-R 750!

K6/K7 models are the same yes?

What should I be looking for, what are they like, riders opinions? MCN review seems to pretty much make out like it's the dogs bollocks.

I want to ideally pay around £4,500.

I like gixxer 750's, had 2 and currently have 750K7 so might be a bit biased Smile.
Had lots of bikes but the 750 is the best road bike I've owned. It sits nicely between a 600 and a 1000, had both of them as well.
For me a 600 is hard work to go fast on, too revvy, low torque, got to thrash it everywhere, loadsa gear changing and it gets boring after a bit.
The 1000's are hard work to ride fast as well (I'm talking road riding in all this), bet most thou riders hardly use 50% of the performance and stay in 2 or 3 gears cos they are intimidatingly quick to the average rider, and things happen too fast.
The 750 is a bike you ride nearer to bikes limit without getting bored, agility and handling of the 600 with a fair bit more grunt but nothing like as intimidating as a thou.
The K6/7 is in a lot of peeps opinion the best model, lighter, more powerful, good suspension and brakes, a riders bike.
I suppose it depends on what you want from a bike. I want something that is involving, can be pushed hard without being intimidating but can still hold its own (and better) on track days, for me the Suzuki GSXR750 K7 is perfect Very Happy

You might want to pay around £4,500 but that will prob only get you a high mileage or a bit of a shitter in the current climate. Looking at 5-5.5k I would of thought at this time of year.
Its a good bike but the reviews etc make out its the ultimate road bike - but I would say thats all well and good if the roads are ultra smooth.
Damping is pretty poor on the standard suspension and struggles a little to cope on the rougher roads. Also, if its standard you will found the rear shock preload is wound up way too hard. Wind this off a good bit and it will improve the ride somewhat.
Handling is what you would expect, but turn in is a little on the slower side thanks to the standard steering damper I think.

Plenty of torque so you can grunt out of corners etc rather than ringing its neck. But you can also ring its neck and ride it like a 600. Either way it never feels like its going to spit you off it just feels, well awesome.

Apart from when you get the inevitable k6/k7 snatchy throttle, when it will try to fuk with your mind. Throttle becomes almost unrideable at low rpms and your forever trying to get a smooth transition but it only happens intermittantly, and there is an apparent temporary fix for it by adjusting the tps sensor - but no long term fix at present.

The mirrors are a waste of fuking time. They vibrate quite a lot at certain rpms and all you can see is shoulder so have to duck your head and look through the gap between your arm and body or lean to one side to see anything (usually a vibrating car).

There are problems with the SET valve in the exhaust but there is a fix for this (remove it).

Thats the only real problems Ive come across, its an awesome bike (but as said take the reviews with a pinch of salt) and the quote that it is the best of both worlds with power delivery like a thou and handling like a 600 is not far off the mark.

Plastics are very thin and flimsy but overal build quality seems quite good. Mines 4 years old and still looks pretty much like new, right down to the shiny headers. They dont hold up too well to corrosion though so if you plan to use it all year round get the fairings off and get it treated with acf50 or similar.

Comes with a shift light and a gear indicator which is nice, slipper clutch which to be honest havent really noticed from road use - brakes are decent enough though not outstanding but feel better with some braided hoses and decent pads.

Fuel range not great but as to be expected really. Oh and the fuel warning lights are way off the mark. It will have you thinking your about to grind to a halt only to fill up and find there was actually 3 litres still in the tank.

Standard exhaust is probably one of the best ever. Looks very neat and tidy and is suprisingly loud (apparently will fail some trackday dB tests).

Bars are very narrow but not really a major problem once you adjust to it.

Thats about it really. Best bike ive ever ridden (not that ive ridden a lot) makes riding fast easy - sometimes a little too easy.
Power delivery is very linear which I was unsure of at first but think its awesome now, doesnt give that neck snapping jolt when you finally hit the power band on a 600.

Get one, and be made of awesome. Thumbs Up

I sold my UK bike, k7 750 18months ago for £3500 with 14,000 miles as I needed a quick sale. You can find proper bargains out there if you keep your eyes peeled

ive bought a k7 750 about 2 months ago and its awsome. it handles great and inspires confidence in you, a power commander and a set up sorts out that snatchy throttle.

one of my mates has a 59 plate blade and he prefers using my bike because he says its so much more flickable but youve still got good power unlike a 600

like previously said you will be looking around5- 5.5k for a good one but you could get one for 4.5 if your not after a low miles mint example.
