so the other day i got the old Kh250 out, and the left piston was stuck, after knocking it free and pulling the cylinder off, the ring snapped, Dohh. And Kawasaki told me they wanted 57 quid for 1 piston ring set.. they can forget that !

Anyway, i had an old Ts50x big bore kit laying around, and with a little modification (filling) i got the Ts50x ring to fit on the KH piston & Cylinder, With the ts50 ring it had a whole load more compression..
Ts50 ring was 47mm i believe, and KH had .50 overbore.

The ring was the right width but the bore on the ts was about a mil or 2 bigger, so i snapped off the groves, then filled a little and put angles on the ring like the KH has.

Dont know what good this is, but if anyone is tuning a KH, might add power, thaught it was interesting and id let everyone know about it. have put about 100 miles on and hasnt blew up yet, so ring must be holding fairly well.

I don't know what distortion tolerances a piston ring of that size has but I would not run the risk of causing extensive damage to the engine of a classic bike just for the sake of saving £57

With a lathe you could turn up a fixture and heat-treat an oversize ring into shape, I think 1mm over isn't too bad but more is asking for it. Hopefully the ring will soon wear into shape.

Hope you got the end-gap right. If it's too small it's gonna bind when it gets hot.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

hasn't binded yet, and has been hot (ran through 5 quids worth of petrol on the road). I am going to sell it anyway, or if i decide to keep it buy a piston kit off eBay.
