As the uk now knows the longest under land tunnel has opened at Hindhead. On the SE section theres a little interest on a day trip to the tunnel and having a hoon through it a few times, so I thought I would post something here to see if anyone else wants to join us.

Dates so far are unconfirmed but as soon as I do work out when I can be available (prob the next few weeks) I'll post here. Probably a sunday morning/lunchtime ish so I can get back for work in the evening.

Plan is: Head up to the Hindhead tunnel and theres exits either end of the A3 so we'll be able to turn around and come back down a few times until we either get bored of the noise or they tell us to stop!

Then probably have a ride out down to the A272 via Midhurst and Henley back onto the A3 and back to the tunnel. The route is just something I found on google that looks nice so subject to change if anyone has any more ideas feel free to post suggestions.

Who's up for it?

EDIT- Ok Lads and Ladies of BCF. Date is set for Sunday 14th August for Tunnel Terror. I'm thinking a 10am start. Meeting probably, possibly at the Devils Punchbowl pub car park on the sunday morning.

Unless anyone that knows the area better has any other suggestions.

Lots of people wanting to know about the speed limit of the tunnel. Found this.

https://www.easthampshire.org/2011/07/hindhead-tunnel-now-officially-open/

Quote:
Secretary of State for Transport Philip Hammond cut the ribbon at about 10.30 this morning, leaving the way open for the first cars to be escorted through the southbound stretch. Traffic is currently restricted to 40mph but the national speed limit (70mph) will be introduced in a few days.

Think that by the time we get there it will be 70mph.
