"There you go, 1371 books, don't tell me you have nothing to read for the next decade."

"Coo, thanks dad, you rock."

Hur hurr, you said fanny, hur hurr.

On a slightly more serious note, I just can't get along with e-books. A chap at work stuck an absolute shed-load of them on one of the servers, but I know I'll just never get around to reading them.

I much prefer a good ole fashioned 'proper' book.

My local charidee shop sells 3 books for 2 quid - bargain! I love it because i'll buy stuff by authors I've never heard of. For 66p a book, if I don't like it, it's no great loss.

Thumbs Up

I've got some 20gb of ebooks I've collected on various subjects I'm interested in over the years, I've read a handful of them, simply because reading on a screen just doesn't mesh with me - even at work all journal articles are in PDF, I'l skim through them to get the jist whether they are any good or not, then print them out and read them properly, I just don;t seem to absorb the information as well off a screen, and this is probably why I have dodged the kindle so far.

My friend who reads just as much as I has been trying to convert me though saying he's ploughing through more books than ever of late. I might see if I can bag one in a sale for cheap and give it a month, if the milk turns out to be sour I'll just flog it again.

Whilst walking though waterstones the other day I thought to myself I wonder if bookstores will stand the test of time in 10 years or so, but after picking up a cracking looking edition of Dantes Inferno and Grays Anatomy I am confident the book store will reign for some years yet.

If I buy a Kindle, but drop off to sleep whilst reading it on the train home one night and it falls on the floor ... will it break?

Dropped mine heaps of times and it's fine. They are pretty sturdy.

Ghost Rider: The kindle is more like reading a book than reading off a screen. No back light to kill your retinas. I thought the same as you until I was surprised with one for b/day and now would never go back. They are amazing!! Read 6 books this month so far.

Also if you do get one then get the Calibre program, it converts PDF's to MOBI and you can read them straight from the kindle. https://calibre-ebook.com/download

Hetzer: Look here too https://thepiratebay.org/browse/601 a lot are in MOBI format and if not just convert them. Got about 3,000 books to read through... love it.

I dont think i could ever handle ebooks. I would much rather a paper book just because i spend all day with computers and i fancy a break.

I love torrents however. I usually torrent a film ever 2 days. It saves me having to pay for anything. Il pretty much torrent anything other than new games, just because there generally 10GB, and i cant be bothered with that.

Cheers Bubbs. The 1371 are all Mobis, about 1.3GB's worth. I'm just finishing downloading another 7GB's worth, all Mobis too.

As for the cost of the Kindle, I'll save what it cost within six months, my daughter goes through books like a shredder. And it does internet browsing (facebook in her case) too. Thumbs Up

Mmmm, interesting. I have recently purchased a kindle. The 89.99 jobbie.

Torrents I am familiar with. Uploading to kindle, not so much.

Lets say hypothetically that someone wanted to do such a thing. How?

I've had a play with the kindle and could only fathom that all books needed to be purchased from the kindle store.

Interesting.... I await for my hypothetical answer...

Download the torrent books (preferably in MOBI format, Kindle can read them straight up). Google "kindle book collection torrent" (without the quotation marks).

Plug the Kindle's USB cable into your PC, it'll come up on the screen as a drive.

Drag the MOBI files you got from torrent into the Documents folder on the Kindle. Job done.

File types read by my Kindle so far are .azw (amazon stylee) .mobi and .prc.
Calibre (free programme) can convert, amongst others, .lit, epub, html and pdf's.

Also go to this site https://calibre-ebook.com/download

And any books that your unable to find in MOBI format you should find in the other various formats. This program converts them to MOBI and connects to your kindle and updates from there. The program also helps you to organise all the folders on your kindle, rename files that are incorrect, etc etc..

I would definitely recommend it.

I just downloaded this. Some really good stuff on there.

I have to say my kindle is one of the best and most used gadgets ive ever bought would highly recommend to anyone considering.

The main complaint i seem to hear when talking about it to anyone is "i like the feel of a book in my hands" which i have to say that i agreed with when i first used mine. This was solved completely though after i bought a leather case, which when folded on itself is the perfect thickness and perfect weight.

I went all out and bought the 3G one but i think if i was doing it again i would just go for the cheapest WiFi one as i think i've used the 3G once, and that was the day that i bought it.

3G is nice when you're abroad to check your email/BCF on.
