Hi guys, me and my dad have recently passed our Bike License's and don't know too much about the Maintenance etc of bikes. My dad has a '99 VFR 800 and his chain is pretty slack. Was just wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the tension on it??

Any help will be appreciated,
Tom

no experience of the 800, but if it's anything like the 400 get the rear wheel off the ground, undo the pinch bolt right at the back of the swing arm and turn the adjuster with a C spanner. Check the tension and then when it's set right torque the pinch bolt up Thumbs Up

^^ This.

The stub axle is on an eccentric adjuster. If you go under the saddle you'll find a 17mm socket to undo the pinch bolt to the rear of the swingarm with in the toolkit.

You'll also find a pin spanner and an extension piece for the handle. This slots in between the sprocket and the swingarm and turns the whole stub axle. Which way you turn it depends on which way up the adjuster is. It's normally clockwise for tight but sometimes people turn the adjuster through 180 degrees to lower the bike slightly in which case it's anticlockwise for tight. Adjust, tighten pinch bolt, check tension again.

It sometimes gets a bit gummed up with grit and stuff, a liberal spraying of WD40 will clear this out.
