Assuming he passes his test. He didn't mention that. If you don't pass your test you can ride a 125 on a CBT.

The car licence doesn't count for anything

May I direct you to the sticky thread at the top of this section, which explains it all.

CBT -> anything up to 125CC / 14BHP

A (restricted) -> Pass this and you can ride anything up to 33BHP. I believe it's irrespective of engine size, only power.

once you've been on a 33bhp bike with the A (Restricted) under your belt for two years, the restriction can be lifted and you can ride what you like.

Woah, I'm not sure you've read his post properly fiveus.

Unless you actually take a bike test you're limited to 125cc, 14.6bhp machine on L-plates and then only after you've completed a CBT.

You haven't read the answers.

You do a cbt and then you can ride a 125 with L plates.

You PASS YOUR TEST to get the 'extra bhp'.

Here is a simple all in 1 post.

You need to pass your cbt which is a simple bit of training in a car park allowing you to ride a 125cc motorbike with L plates. This is valid for 2 years.

Once you have a CBT certificate you can do your test which at the moment consists of 3 parts. Theory, mod1 and mod2. Once you have done these you can ride anything upto 33bhp. You can get a bigger bike and restrict it to 33bhp or get one that is already below 33bhp.

2 years after the test you are free to ride whatever you want.
