I sold a bike in march 2010 after sorning it. I didnt really know what to do with the v5 as we were 300miles apart.

I know this is the wrong thing to do but I signed it and filled in my part and went over with the new buyer over the phone.

He still needed to sign it so when the van driver came I tucked it under the seat.

After a month had passed I assumed that the seller did not get a notification or it got lost in the post, as the guy seemed legit and why would he do something stupid and not send it off?
this was also my 1st ever vehicle sold at the age of 18

After a year i got a sorn reminder, so i obviously still own it.
I just checked the tax online and it is not taxed or insured, it would be a relief to me to find it taxed then I wouldnt have broken another law... but shit happens I guess.

I have not been notified by them other than the sorn reminder but in october it would have been 6months where the vehicle was not taxed or sorned. I figured if I can somehow sorn it without any documents to hand I can pretend I still own it and since i didnt go past the 6month no tax time scale i wouldnt be in too much trouble.

Then plan b would be how to end the responsibility of having to sorn every year. but since 5mins work gives me a years clearance. I think its a good target to aim for as the bike was a state when i sold it. since it has no insurance or tax and the guy didnt bother taking legal ownership he has probably scrapped it so i dont think the dvla will realise i dont have it any more.

I am thinking of ringing dvla up tomorrow but they can just record it, play it in court and i will lose over a grand.

Well what Can I do Laughing

Feel like an idiot

Should have got the van driver to fill it out with the new keepers details, and sign it, then given him the new keeper supplement.

You then send off the remainder of the V5 yourself.

Did you actually tell the buyer you've put it under the seat?

He's probably wondering why his V5 hasn't turned up. Laughing

Yeah I told him and It wasnt the type of seat you get on normal bikes. Its the type you get on big scooters that just swing up so you can put your helmet under it.

and this particular seat fell off if you titled the bike 5 degrees or so LOL so he should have found it.

Nooooooo! If you don't own it, don't claim to still own it because the DVLA will come knocking and you will get screwed for everything.

Write to them reiterating that you sold it a year ago, and give the details of the person you sold it to.
