Failed the MOT today at 4pm - all of the pads worn below the limit. Not bad for a fail but the MOT runs out tomorrow.

Dash across town for new pads. £70 lighter and off home to fit them. Started about 4:25. Front caliper pins come out ok but the pistons are mingin so clean them up coz there's no point doing it if you're going to push the dirt into the seals, and fit pads both sides.
Rear pins are seized in like a bastid. Drill 2 little holes in the caliper opposite the pin ends and punch the pins out from the back. Cleaned up the caliper pistons and the rusty pins and fit new pads, then over to the MOT again for 5:20 for a pass.

That, was a very busy hour and a twenty minutes. Only front pads I could get were Armstrong. I'm sure they are cheap shite but time will tell. EBC on the rear and they started working within a few minutes. Fronts yet to bed-in.

I have used Armstrong sintered pads when I was skint. They actually weren't too bad.

I tried some Armstrong pads and over the whole weekend of greenlaning they caused me nothing but agro and a badly bruised foot when the back brake would not work on a steep downhill BOAT.

I soon changed back to Ferodo MX pads which work in all conditions.

Do you MOT a month before next year. That way you get a month to get the bike right and they forward date the MOT. It gives you more scope to get the parts at the right price.

My bro has armstrong pads atm, said they wear out rather quickly.

£70 seems a hell of a lot too, front armstrong pads should be about £15-18 per caliper.

Nonetheless, pretty good turn around Thumbs Up .

Needs must and all that. Given a choice I would have gone for EBC or Bendix all round.
