I made a complete pratt of myself this morning, granted I've only been riding a couple of months, but it was so embarrassing.

I was sitting on the right-hand side of a car in a queue of stationary traffic, couldn't get past it because of a pedestrian island in the middle of the road.

So I decided to cut behind the car & overtake on the inside, so steered full left lock behind the car, turned to almost full right lock, did a left lifesaver, saw another bike coming up on the inside.

This is where things went wrong....

Since I was now blocking the other bikes path I throttled slightly to get going down the inside, but I didn't have enough right lock and headed rapidly towards the curb, so I applied the front brake, unfortunately because I was steering right my right elbow was bent down, which meant my right palm was tight against the throttle, so as I applied the break I ALSO opened the bloody throttle, careered onto the pavement almost crashed into some parked bicycles before I got things under control. (I ride a twisty so grabbing the clutch wasn't an option).

I'm hoping the other biker reads this forum so I can say sorry for almost skittling him, and a thanks for the much appreciated 'are you all right mate?'

The 'got a screw loose' gesture I made was obviously aimed at MYSELF and NOT him.

I worked my way to the front of a queue last week, when the lights turned green I stalled the bike. I've been riding nearly every day for 28 years. Oh the shame, the red cheeks, the cringingtoness of it all.

I had my CBT last Saturday and moved onto the 500CC on Sunday. Well about 40 minutes into using a 500CC for the first time, I got to entrance of a roundabout and I can't exactly remember why it happened, but I wobbled (I think it was the front brake that did it), lost my balance and the bike lent over to the left and then it got to the point of no return so I just let it go and hopped out of the way as it dropped Laughing

Then pure panic and probably embarrasment gave me the strength to yank the bike up and I'm pushing and pushing, Doh, its in gear - clutch in and wheeled it to the side of the road. God knows if anyone was behind me, I was trying not to look, but how embarrasing Shocked

Thankfully the bike school had crash guards on these bikes so no serious damage Thumbs Up

Embarassing mishaps are the best. Like riding down your own street, getting to the end of it and losing the back end on black ice, infront of all of your neighbours, sliding and then lieing there thinking "Fuck, bet I look a right tart".

I went through the Dartford Tunnel on the bike for the first time ever yesterday, being a dozy twat I picked one of the car only lanes and the nice man had to open the barrier manually for me Embarassed

Chin up matey, everyone makes silly mistakes! The key is to learn from it and hopefully not repeat it again in the future.

Embrassing moments i have had a few

1/ getting on the back of my ex cbr6 and him pulling away outside my house.....bike going sideways and us both rolling on the floor....he`d forgotten to take the disc lock off.

2/ just got my first bike in november and riding to a mate,on the way back the weather had changed and just round the corner from my house theres an unmarked juction, because the road went round i thought i had right of way, spotted this car coming down fast and brought on the brakes, there was black ice on the road and the bike ended up skidding round and off i went, the car driver stopped and asked if i was ok.

3/ it been a nice hot few days and i had an apointment at the hospital.well the heavens opened up and i was on my tzr125 riding alone maybe a little to fast when i noticed the traffic lights had changed

I started to brake, but the engine had other ideas and accelerated! and I ended up snaking. couldnt hold it and ended up off and skidding along the floor me and bike stopped before hitting the car that was in front. bloke got out and told me he was an off duty police officer!

and had i been speeding..... i replied no officer i was slowing down!

4/ was slowing down in winter to turn into the petrol station and the cruiser losing traction and skidding on diesel all i thought was i hope noone saw me then a load of people came over to see if i was ok!

5/ Going dancing on my first date with Tef! Actually...... going ANYWHERE with Tef!

Well fingers crossed theres going to be no repeats of any of these whoops..and my riding career is just going to run smoothly from now on...

Tinted visors hide the embarrassment! Cool

Seriously. Ever since I've bought mine, I couldn't care less what stupid things I do because nobody can see my face. Laughing

When I had my practical test (when there was only 1 test a few years ago) I left the petrol tap off. Set off, got a bit down the road, started loosing power then I remembered and was frantically fumbling around searching for it! Kept going slower and slower and I thought it was going to stall but I found it just in time and carried on. God only knows what the examine behind me was thinking, but I passed! Doh!

I managed my favourite trick of "go to flip on the indicators and mash my thumb on the horn instead" again, scared the life out of the person I was riding with!

This is rapidly turning into a thread of many silly mistakes to make the OP feel better Laughing

I'm partial to a bit of horn action when indicating too, nearly always when leaving a roundabout Laughing.
I've only done it once since getting the srad last month tho Very Happy

Mine dates back to my teens, (a few years ago!)
It was my mates 21st birthday party, and I duly turned up with the obligatory bottle and had a good evening, somewhat enlivened when one of the guests fell into the open septic tank!
The weather turned nasty after dark and I decided to avoid the main road and took to the back lanes. That was mistake numero uno!
As I dropped down off the Downs I ran into thick fog, instantly my goggles fogged up, (open face helmets in them days,) so I pushed them up out of the way, and my glasses fogged!
Creeping along the lanes, intermitantly wiping me glasses and trying to see the grass verge, (dim 6 volt lights,) I soon lost track of where I was. Eventually I spotted a 'finger post' looming above the fog and realised where I was and opened up slightly. Mistake number two!
It was then that I remembered that the sign post sat in the middle of an island of grass, which I then hit and sailed over the handle bars.
Spitting grass I tried to find my glasses, patting a round on the damp grass to do so, eventually I discovered them pushed up under my helmet, now where did I drop my gloves?
Having finally located those I made my way to the bike and turned the lights off to save the battery. By this time I had completely lost any sense of direction, so I walked over to the sign post and shinned up it to read the boards, Now where did I leave the bike?
So next step is carefully walking around the edges of the grass till I fell over it, then off I went.
Having finally got clear of the fog I opened up a bit, and got pulled by the police for exceeding the speed limit.
A night to remember!

Roy.

bringing up an old thread i know... but the stalling, horn-instead-of-lights one, and also, switching to full beam on a main road when a cop is heading at you when you try to indicate right, then get confused and pull out in front of them, aah the good days of biggening out on a bike :') thank god the police round here are typical simpsons, (donut eating fat gets that cant be arsed doing anything)
or at least they were, new plod is here, and he doesnt like us bikers Sad

embarrassing moment number 1: riding a 50cc moped...i know its the law...but it still sucks!

2) CBT...first time on a moped ever...when practicing junctions, my fumbling hands found what i thought was the indicator switch....turned out to be the horn
