my gilera dna 50cc has a rattly gears and this is also causing slow pickup. i have taken the side casing off to make sure it isnt the clutch and iv taken the clutch off and turned the wheel and the noise is definately coming from the gears even a garage checked it. they say it could be the gears are worn or it could be bearings but are charging too much to fit it. how hard are they to fix? and is there any mechanics around the west london area that have reasonable pricing. thanks a lot

Rattly gears? Do you mean the rollers in the variator? Because it's a variator automatic CVT thingy and doesn't have "gears" as such but the variator and the clutch on either ends.

If you take the variator off (normally behind the belt) and take it apart you'll see 6 rollers in there. Check if they're squared off, if they are this will definitely be the problem. The clutch is on the right of the drive, next to the wheel and the variator is on the left on the crank shaft.
If they are squared, get some new rollers - try a few sets ranging from light ones (I think they make easier pick up) to heavier ones (for a better top speed correct me if I'm wrong).

Hope this helps

Shows an exploded view of it. Maybe this will help a little?

Just strip it down yourself. It should only take a couple of hours and should be a good mechanical learning curve for you.
