Following on from this thread https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=219026 i've decided that i am going to give my 16 year old CB500 swingarm a complete service soon (grease) and replace everything that's even close to needing replacing (it's a heavily ex-abused ex-riding school bike with 53K miles on it).
Thing is, i'm not precisely 100% sure what components in there are likely to wear, and i'm not wanting the bike off the road for weeks whilst i wait for this and that, so i'm wanting to get components sorted first ideally - bearings aside, because i'm going to need to see the numbers that are (hopefully?) written on them so i can buy them from a bearing specialist instead of paying the earth for the exactly-the-same "official Honda" bits. That and the additional problem that places are funny about returning unused parts (else i'd be tempted to order everything possible, and then return everything i didn't use).
Have attached a picture with all the parts labelled which hopefully will mean that someone who's done this before can tell me what's what - what i should just order in advance for a minimum of hassle etc. Tips and unusual/special tools (i hate difficult bodgery methods, i far prefer to just buy the tool and save on hassle) needed to remove the inevitably rusty components would also be massively appreciated, due to the Haynes penchant for not telling you everything you need to do for a bike that's had years for things to seize into place.
Anything anyone can say to make this task go easier than my other '1st time' jobs (like the clutch that ultimately took 2 months to sort out...) would be hugely appreciated! ____________________ -- Ingah |
