Hi guys.

Have heard copper grease is bad for your seals in your brakes. So I am after some red rubber grease.

There is currently copper grease on the sides of the pistons and on the backs of the brake pads. How long would it take to penetrate the seals?

Also, is there any mainstream dealers that sell this grease? Is it likely that back street specialists will sell it?

I would prefer to buy it from a shop to eliminate the cost of postage and it will be here faster so I can do it quicker so my brakes last longer.

Thanks guys! Thumbs Up

Red rubber grease isn't that hard to find.

You should be able to buy it from any DIY/hardware shop.
Trago Mills in Liskeard will sell it.

Should be no more than 10 quid for a decent size pot of it.

If failing that, theres always ebay.

Yes friend, it's true that almost all mineral based grease is incompatible with rubber\plastics.
Red rubber grease is available from your local main bike dealer in a tiny sachet, usually £1.00 + Vat for just enough to do a front brake overhaul, very sparingly I may add.

Suggest you buy from OPIE OILS in 500 gram tub,
they are doing free delivery just now, last you a lifetime.

You should get it for around £7.00

You won't regret buying what seems too be too much.

Just clean off all the old copper-ease etc. thoroughly; any damage that has occurred to rubber boots etc. is irreversible, it may be beter to buy new rubbers if you want to be meticulous about maintenance

Hope this helps

Wemoto sell it by either the tube or in little pots with enough to do one or two callipers.

I wouldn't worry to much if there is copper grease on the pistons. But red rubber is better!

I found a little back street place, 25p per sachet, which I was told would be enough to do all of the brakes twice (works out to 20 pistons, 4 in each front, and 2 in the back one)
