Been enquiring about a zx6r track bike which has the following history:

Bike - J model - write off (must have been cat a or b as not allowed back on road)

I think engine and running gear etc and tank and other bits taken from this bike (black) and transfered to a G model frame which has v5 and keys etc and is hpi clear (i think!)

So the result is a G model bike with J model engine running gear etc and is on logbook as red.

Is this legal? Can you basically rebuild a bike starting out with just the frame using parts (in particular the engine) from a bike that must have been cat a or b?? Obvioulsy the colour needs updating so no doubt the engine number hasnt been updated - If I bought this bike and updated the logbook what problems am I likely to run into?? (Would want to use it as a daytime mot bike for the track)

Thumbs Up

fine for a track bike, the police will not care if they match.... the dvla probably will care though.

Perfectly legal, it's you are riding the G model ZX6R. Just with bodywork and engine from a different bike. Just like any 'streetfighter'.

Get the colour changed with the DVLA. Make sure the engine number is changed on the v5. Ideally you should declare the 'mods' to your insurance company or you might find yourself in a sticky situation if you ever need to claim.

But there are no issues with that being used on the road, and certainly not on track.

i thought class A bikes had to be destroyed regardless and Class B the frame and engine had to go?
