Hi,

Not going to use my 600 from now until next summer (possibly even the summer after) so the plan is to lay it up. I've done a little research with regard to this so know most aspects of how to do this however there is quite a bit of conflicting advice on the web as regards preparing the fuel system. Some advocate brimming the tank, others draining it, still others draining and splashing oil around inside it.

I doubt for a year's lack of use it would make much difference really, but with the bike having four carbs it would be nice to avoid the hassle of needing to overhaul them when it eventually comes out of hibernation. I've got some Briggs & Stratton fuel stabiliser for use with lawnmowers so I was thinking of adding some of this to the tank and then running the engine for a bit to get the mixture into the fueling system.

Wondered if anyone had any thoughts or tips?

I'd drain the carbs, but probably brim the fuel tank.

There's a little screw on the bottom of the float blows so you can drain them. Make sure you turn your fuel tap off first though.

Then I'd lob some stabiliser into the full tank if I could be bothered. Personally I'm not convinced by the fuel "going off" thing. It should still go bang in a year's time.

If I thought I was going to be sent down for two years the last thing I'd be thinking about would be the health of a £700 Yamaha Diversion! Smile

Service it before you lay it up - get it off the ground if you can (stands) to stop the tyres getting flat spots. Douse the chain in oil, spray oil or ACF50 on anything that might go rusty, drain the carbs, brim the tank and add stabiliser. I'd probably also pop the plugs and stick a spoon of engine oil down each hole.

Depending on where you are storing it then covers etc etc might be a good idea.
