Following on from the other thread "Biking brands you avoid". Which brands do you trust to be worthy of your hard earned?

Mine are Bridgestone, Frank Thomas, Varta, Suomy and NGK. Not one of those companies has ever let me down and i like to try different stuff to see whats about and always seem to go back to those companies when i need their sort of thing.

When the compo comes in i will be sampling Shark helmets, Alpinestars for boots/gloves and Hein Gericke for some textiles, hopefully they will be worth it as i have heard good things about them and they arent the cheapest of brands either.

Hideout, Honda, Ipone, Motul, Sidi, Metzler, Pirelli, Yuasa, Akrapovic, MHP.

Same reasons as above really. Always done good quality stuff, and sorted me out when required. Hideout are probably the ones I trust most. They hand make leathers about 30 miles from my house. Do alterations too. CE Level 2 approved.

Shoei, Arai and Sidi.

I *did* trust Hein Gericke until their waterproofs leaked from day one. Textiles are good though.

Kawasaki, Akrapovic, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Arai, Alpinestars, Sidi

I suppose Yamaha, too. Can't really blame them for one bad dealer experience. Could blame 'em for cutting corners with cheapo Chinese electronics, though...

RST. Had a spill in their Razor leathers and hardly a scuff.
Suzuki, although their replacement parts are expensive.
+1 on Bridgestone, NGK and Alpinestars.

i trust no one,
its all just shit, i don't expect anything good from any gear,
the only products i have been surprised with the quality is

kenda tyres, (odd tyre sizes, so good for those of us with 80's bikes)
setup boots (factory now closed)
ice breaker (best made marino base layers)
modern MZ motorcycles (shame they just make poxy scoots now Sad )

I suppose it depends what you mean by trust. Do you mean things have never gone wrong? Well then I have a huge list! Or do you mean they sorted problems out without bitching when they went wrong?

If that is the case -

Oxford - They sent me a new controller for my heated grips when the first went wrong.
Daytona - Made a completely new pair of 'made to measure' boots for my wife when she complained the first pair were a bit slack.
Triumph - replaced a radiator trim when I moaned there was a very slight run in the paint.

Thats about it.

Hi

Not sure a brand is something to be trusted that much. To me a brand is a badge invented by a marketing department to try and charge more for what they can sell. To an extent I trust it as much as I trust a marketing departments short term need to sell something against their long term wish to maintain a brand name.

I suppose I would prefer to look at it as a make, which might be related to a brand or might just be the cheapest supplier they could find.

That said a brand might be aimed at the cheap rubbish end of the market and to be avoided (any number of Chinese 125 makers), or aimed at a specification that doesn't suit me (Harley).

All the best

Keith

Dobles in Coulsdon, replaced my new blade when they thought it sounded wrong before I picked it up, sorted me out when someone from Honda dropped my SP1 and have always been very helpful. Arai, Sidi, Wolf and Browning all seem very reliable as well.
