as title really, (this here is my first post so hello all Smile )

personally i have a honda cx500 mostly considered a winter hack, compared to a cg125 its bloody fantastic, cost not allot to buy, costs not allot to run and i can keep up with a zzr600 despite its lardy 230kg dry weight, i use it every day in any weather, though i'd like to do some serious touring on it..
i'd have to think REALLY carefully before i brought something else though, maybe its cause its my first >125 bike i dunno..

anyone else ride a ratty old bruiser?
(feel free to mock me)

Well mine's a 14 year old ZXR750 with 46K on the clock so you could say she's been round the block a bit, and got a bit tatty.

Nothing wrong with older bikes mate Liar

My bike is 15 years old. Exclamation Shhh! GPz550 btw. Wink

My previous bike was 2 years old, and didn't have features such as a fuel gauge and volt meter which my 15 year old bike does. Laughing

My bike is 5 years old this year. I think its better than a newer Daytona because the seat height on the new one is shockingly high and the newer ones look poo too.

My bike has the same basic riding gear, just different plastics and seat.
TBH I had a new bike once, and I lost SOOO much money. I do think it can be a money pit to own an older bike too though, it depends on the reliability and running costs I suppose. I reckon 2-6 years old is the best range of bikes to look for. Smile

/me hugs my bike. Smile

oooh couldn't see myself buying a newun, unless i was loaded, the depriciation on some is shocking!
when ever at matlock bath it gets nothing but positive comments Smile its not allot older than some but styling wise it certainly looks it!
i dunno theres something cool about older bikes (maybe not the cx but hey) many modern bikes tend to be ultra efficient and quiet, refined and confirming to fluffy eu regulations.. that is semi touring shafties, for example the cx's modern counterpart is the honda duvalle, hmmm so... interesting... good bike, clean efficient, reasonable power but its just not really very exciting* Sad

*Though its probably a hell of allot more comfy, cheeper to run more responsive ride e.t.c.

ah the zero thing is a name i use on most forums and have for years, can't 100% remember why Embarassed

Two (and a teeny tiny bit!) years old. I've owned it for 4 months - it's only got 1900 miles on the clock as myself and the previous owner are fully paid up members of the Fair Weather Bikers Club of Great Britain!

Already want to swap it for the new 600 Daytona though - just about to book a test ride Thumbs Up

Erm, 5 months. Laughing (well, that's from the registration date anyway). My previous two bikes were 8/9 years old.

Three years and six months old, and the two previous owners were monkeys who couldn't find any bike maintenance gear in their trees. I'm more or less replacing bits as they go wrong. In this week's episode, tyres and pads! Laughing

PS I need a new chain tensioner bolt. Anyone know if a normal nut and bolt will do? Laughing

My CB500 is about 9 years old with about 30K miles on it. Looks quite good for its age though.

I think my bike is about 18 months or so old, it's only got 1600 odd miles on the clock. I bought it in November from a Harley dealer, sshhh, say nothing! They took it as a part-ex, looks like some old boy had it for a while and traded it in. It only had 1350 miles on the clock when I picked it up, chicken strips as wide as the M6, had a private plate on it, still had the knobbly bits attached to the tyres and I could now sell it for a grand more than I bought it for. I still fancy the 04 model though but don't tell it, I think I'm still in it's good books!

Who needs all this modern technology??

woo! i'm still winning Very Happy (i'm not sure thats good)

yeh its pretty amazing what you can pick up now for not all that much money, bike that a few years ago would have been running rings around others at serious races, i think the cx will do 120 (though i'm not about to try it) not bad for something thats a (nearly) quater of a century old and a quater of a ton!
anyone ever read RIDE and such like? its interesting to read the <£3000 bikes reviews, thing is you never really know how well the person before looked after it..

Hi

Varies. Newest bike on the road is from 1997. Oldest bike on the road is from 1986. Oldest bike is from 1953 (I think).

All the best
