Still trying to diagnose the poor running problems of my Honda Deauville as mentioned in the 'Poorly Honda' thread.

Today I took the airbox off and discovered some oil and tiny bits of gravel on the underside of the box (the side at the engine after the filter).

I have taken some pics to assist anyone who can shed some better light on this matter.

Here are the pics:

As you can see the wet area is below the hole nearest the bottom. The other hole appears to be dry.

And to the right of the hole there is a little channel which leads from the engine (see pic below). And at the end of it (circled) that is where the tiny fragments of gravel are.

The airfilter appears to be fine so I doubt the gravel has come through the filter, especially since it is located in the small area.

The place where the gravel is coming from is the open pipe just above the HT lead.

I removed the airbox a few months ago and I am almost 100% certain that there was no gravel or oil in it the last time I had it dismantled.

Will this be causing the problems?

This leads right into the carbs so any shite in there will be getting sucked into the engine.

Should I clean the carbs as a precautionary measure?

Will fuel additive stuff be ok or will they need completely overhauled?

Any help muchly appreciated.

Hi there, it looks as though the oil will be from the engine breather, which should be ok unless there was pints of the dam stuff, the small stones I would suggest are just pieces sucked in while you are on the road, theres loads of crap blowing about out there, your air filter should prevent any problems being passed on.

It is on the side of the airbox after the filter. Shocked
