Can't you get any gears? a lot of Suzukis have the gear pattern cast/etched on the cover close to the lever, have a look.

Yea I'm getting gears but they seem to be really random, I'm going first second then what I think is third nearly dies as if its too high s gear, but then I go one above the near dying gear and its like I'm in second again its bizarre! ??

I had that for a while when I first started riding mine - 1 down, 3 up (4 gears) but it seemed to jump straight from 2nd to 4th sometimes, turns out the clutch spring had failed and snapped (the one just under the left hand cover, before you get to the flywheel parts)
Replaced that and it was fine.

Or, my favourite - from 1st - going into neutral instead of 2nd Evil or Very Mad

1 down 4 up.

Just stamp the gears down to 1st and then up to get neutral. Your neutral light wil come on then. Its more diffiult to select gears when not moving so you would have to release the clutch/blip the throttle to get it through the gears. When your riding it will be so much easier to shift

If in the garage and cant start it you can just rock the bike back and forth a little while applying firm pressure on the selector, you usually only need to move a few inches a foot at most and you will fell the selector click into the next gear.

When one of my mates got his bike (Sym Wolf classic) the gearbox is backwards, Its first is at the top then Neutral and 4 gears below. he did his CBT on a CG125 with 'normal' gears and was having trouble, So I gave it ago (thinking he was just being a noob) and was confused also.

*waits for someone to jump on me for suggesting that 1down-n- 4/5 up is normal when its only really common to japanese bikes and that before they came along everyone was fine with different setups...

its 1 down 4 up anyway - I have a GP100.

I have also ridden classic bikes (British) which has the gear lever on the other side and its 1 up and 3/4 down lol
