Hi guys, I was wondering what you do to fix wiring in your bike. You know the copper cables that connect to the battery etc... Basically it's gone all green and moldy and breaks off after a while. Now it's gotten to short to reach the battery, and I can't use the bike now. (NSR if you need to know)

What's the solution? Can I replace the whole wiring in the bike? What do I buy? Where do I get it?

Cheers.

dude ya just get a solidering iron chop it back until its nice and shiny again , and if necessary use some flux to clean it up a bit.

solder some more wire on and wrape some electrical tape around it.

or if ya realy cant be assed halfords do crappy blue thing that using a pair of plires you clip onto wires and teh self connect by cutting though them.

Yeah but can I replace the lot? Like the whole cable right back to wherever it goes?

Hi

Probably not easily. The wire probably goes some way through the loom. You would have to chop the covering off the loom.

However to be honest it might be worth finding out the cost of a new loom. Last time I asked the price of a loom for a bike (quite a few years ago) I was shocked how cheap it was.

All the best

Keith

Sorry to sound stupid here but what exactly is the loom? I've heard that before but I'm not sure what it is. Confused

lol, loom is all the wires that are wrapped up in a protected cover that comes pre-made by the manufactor with all the connectors with wires sticking out the write bits.

eg
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2458443790&category=10460

probly easy to just look at one.

wires wont to rotten all the way though its only theend which are open to the elements more, cut it back a fair bit.

Ah I see now. That's what I thought, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the help then.

Just spoke to a mate and his dad has the kit to rewire everything for me. So I'll need to do a quick join and drive down to him this week.

Thanks again! Thumbs Up Razz
