Hello all - MY BIKE IS BROKEN Crying or Very sad

The clutch simply doesnt work... You shift from neutral to 1st (with the clutch pulled in of course - the wheel starts to spin... you rev more with clutch PULLED IN - the wheel goes faster...)

Where and what do you think I need to do? Smile

It's just dragging. You need to adjust the clutch cable at the lever, or the engine end.

Okay, so I have dabbled with the screwy bit near the handle for the clutch. Doesnt make a blind bit of difference, unfortunately the nuts near where the clutch cable joins into the engine, cant be moved. When i twist the nut - the cable twists, and I physically cant work out how to keep the cable casing still, whilst i twist the nut... Any ideas?

yeah where the cable passes through the bracket next to the leaver on clutch casing there is a small flat on the end of the cable next to the 2 nuts think its about 8 /6 mm.
or just use grips to stop it spinning Thumbs Up

Do you have any 'free pay' on the cable?

Hang on, is it doing this while up on the centre stand?

Do you actually have problems with it on the road? When you put it into 1st gear with the clutch pulled in, does it jump, stall, or start to creep forwards?

If not, if it's only doing it while up on the stand, then try (carefully) putting your hand on the rear wheel with the clutch pulled in. Can you stop it with your hand?

If so, then it's not a problem. Your bike has a wet clutch. There's oil in there, and even with the clutch plates fully disengaged there's some viscous coupling that will turn the output shaft and the rear wheel. This looks surprising and wrong the first time you see it, but it's normal for wet clutches.

Hmmm, well it's on the centre stand, but it's quite hard to stop it with my hand. Unlike my dads who definately has what you are describing as a wet clutch. The power being put into the wheel is a fair bit more for this bike...

A cable consists of an inner and an outer part, the black outer is fixed at the ends and does not move.
The inner stranded core moves.
Free play is needed on all clutch cables, and is easily measured by feeling for slack on the lever or pulling at the ends of the outer cable. At the clutch lever you should have 5mm of gap (free play), when the lever is not in use.

So when it's not in use, I should be able to move it side to side, by 5 mm yeh? Like testing for a slack chain? Smile thanks for all your help so far Smile
