Currently have a set of 12v 35/35w halogen bulbs in the bike. Am considering upgrading to some 12v 50/55w bulbs to make it brighter. Would this cause any problems? I mean interms of overloading the electrics etc.

Thanks

Carlos.

It depends what bike. Higher wattage bulbs may melt the reflector or lens, it may also burn the wiring, or use more power than the stator can generate.

I used to run 60/55w H4 in a Jap import CBR400,just had to bend the 2 bottom tangs in to make them fit.Didn't cause any problems on my bike.

Aren't Jap import CBR4's something like a 60/35 standard? If so, you'd expect them to be able to take that wattage of bulb anyway.

This,

if you have plastic lenses then you need to be careful somebody had tried to put higher powered bulbs in my blade before I bought it and it has slightly melted the lense on the dipped bean side.

Fortunately it has not affected the beam pattern so it still passes it mot, it just looks a bit like its steamed up a bit.

I stuck a Halfrauds 'super dooper extreme brilliance' or something like that in my Hornet, the improvement was HUGE over the standard bulb, with the same power rating. Cool
