hyosung gt250r

im limited to 33bhp, figured I would get a 250 as it is lower insurance, tax and Im getting 85mpg. All I really wanted was a bit more top speed. I had a 125 and it was a struggle to get to nsl. maybe a 600 will go that little bit faster when restricted but when its so much more expensive, why bother. I will keep this for at least 2 years so its not like im losing out on depreciation, some people buy 10 bikes in 1 year.

This bike does so much more for me than almost double the speed of my 125. Bombed it along chesel beach, it really goes! love the looks and the fact that I now have a nice big tank to grab. I no longer have the budget crap of my cbf, I actually have a rev counter!!!! and i can turn my headlights off etc lol

Well Im chuffed, I gave the dealer a REALLY hard time because it was a hyosung and I had a honda. I had never had my honda fail me and the last thing I wanted was to have to get the bus to work! he isnt god but he offered a 12month warranty which i can take out at the end of my existing 2month warranty. (not free though)

Im hoping that it wont give me any trouble and i wont even bother with the extended. seems good so far Thumbs Up

you can see in the pics it has no grab rail, when i got it home it had a cowl, i installed the seat but need big ass allen keys for the grab rail. my mrs ended up constantly sliding into the back of me, causing my nuts to almost burst against the tank! owie!!!
i did tell her to put her hand on the tank so its not so bad now.

i know it has a few stickers that should be removed but for the time being i want to spend my time riding it rather than getting sticky crap off!

really want to go out on it now but went to the clubs last night so i better sober up Rolling Eyes

*EDIT* Grab rail installed, tatty stickers removed

Hello, another Ryan eh? Very Happy.

Looks spot on. Ideal first bike. On the reliability front, I don't think you have much to worry about with the Hyosungs. From what I hear they're mechanically sound. Just keep on top of maintainance as with any bike and it will treat you well.

Any mods planned?

Enjoy and ride ride safe pal.

Ryan.

For a split second there I thought you had the same bike as me as well as the name lol.
Yeah I think it will be fine, I was browsing some reviews, a majority of them were fine but some people state that it pretty much writes its self off due to faults. Seems like it is all down to who built them. I do trust the people who built this one though.

No mods planned for the minute. I do have the race hugger which i will probably never install again tbh because I would like the pillion seat. It has an upgraded screen on there as well.

I think the mirrors do need replacing. the left one kept falling and angling so that all i see is my crotch, and the screen rattles. Someone stuffed foam in between it and the dash but does bugger all on the crappy road surfaces around dorset.
it did have a much smaller number plate but some idiot had it done so the font was illegal and the dealer got a new one made up. i may buy a new one and have it as small as possible without being illegal

Thumbs Up for getting a 250 instead of buying something with lots of power and then restricting it, far better being able to use everything the bike has. Cheaper consumable is a plus too.

On the reliability side, its a fairly new bike so it should be reliable. It will be less resilient than a Japanese bike if you start messing around with it. Keep away from the noisy exhausts and special air filters etc and keep it standard, and service it when it needs to be serviced. I would do oil changes at half the recommended interval, an oil change is cheap and good peace of mind. The bit that seems to be weakest on Hyosungs is the electrics, and the solution is to never let the battery go low or flat. Investing in an optimate with the quick connector cable and plugging it in every night will likely save you trouble in the long run.

Clean it frequently too, the finish isn't fantastic on anything these days, and Hyosungs more so.

Looks like a good bike. Look after it and it should keep going. Avoid the trap of trying to make it faster, it's a budget 250. Ride it lots and learn to really corner well, that will pay dividends in the future if you get something far faster.

Oh, if it ever starts to feel like the handling is going or it feels a bit off, buy a new set of tyres before buying a new bike. I've lost count of the number of times that me or someone I know has thought their bike is knackered and the problem is just down to worn out or very old (hardened) tyres. A pair of brand new budget avons feels far better than worn out super duper £350 tyres.

Look after your chain, too.

Cracking looking 250, had a soft spot for these since they came out.

Robby is spot on, mechanically they are fine but the finish will degrade at a fairly alarming rate if they are neglected. That is true of any bike to be honest though, just more so with Hyosungs. frequent rinses with water to remove salt and spraying with anti corrosion agents during winter are especially vital.

I'm gonna go against Robby though and say get a noisy pipe, they sound the dogs bollocks with them on. Get the carb rejetted and you won't have an issue.

Also, just checked up on the price of one of these things new, £3,795 OTR ain't bad considering a R125 Yam will set you back £4,300 these days! And they're all fuel injected now, apart from the 125 models. Still pick up the 650 naked version for £4,600 brand spanker

I agree it will run but not put up with any funny business, I was riding it around today and all of a sudden I went from 3 bars to one on the fuel gauge, I had a really bad feeling the low fuel would jam the FI with crap! Got away with it for now i reckon.

Any particular product recommendations?

I got it for £2200 with 3k miles, 08 plate.

I had one for a while. Great bike, best looking and most fun four stroke 250 on the market IMO. If you want an aftermarket can get one of these

https://www.hyosungsource.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=926

Looks awesome and makes it sound like a v-twin 1000!

+1
when I first passed my test, I test rode loads of bikes and decided quite a few sportsbikes didnt handle very well. I realise now this was mostly down to squared off tyres on the particular ones I tried out, rather than a problem with a particular model of bike.

I'm also a fan of putting £10 part worn tyres on frequently, rather than making full price tyres last. People who do track days often sell on tyres after only one days use.

Nice bike, i'm selling my 250 Hyo at the moment to upgrade to the 650 Very Happy

The finish after 2006 was a massive improvement and will now be up there with the Suzuki's etc, just look after it and keep it polished and ACF 50'd in the winter and you'll be fine.

If you've still got the Shinko tyres fitted then get rid of them, they are lethal in the wet.

Yeah its just the sound quality of the vid. I tried a motounion system and hated the sound of it but i can personally vouch for the look and sound of that can. tI sounded very similar to my old firesetorm. Deep and boomy. It is really well made and has 2 removable baffles. Its also the only oval can on the market for the 250.

Agreed.

My 125 lasted 3 miles before melting itself.

Sounds like a fucked engine to me but hey, I am a bullshitter. So obviously that can't be me in the video, starting my ow bike, revving it then doing another video dressed the same.

Opps, better luck next time.

Blah blah blah.
I went to Scarborough with my ex, and my mate took my sister on his SV we ate chips at the harbour, then spent the rest of the day, chilling in Peasholme park. Got back, dropped my sister off and went to the pub.
It can all be explained to my brother through PM, and he can confirm it with my sister since she was there and will tell him the truth.
We even sang with a group of pissed up tramps near the boat shed before walking the rest of the way round the park.

Having a fucked engine is nothing to brag about and not what I called bullshit on.

This little gem is what I know is bollocks.

If it would go 1 mile with no oil I would eat my own head.
