My gpz500s has been playing up the last week misfiring and running like it's out of fuel,Tested all the electrics and they seemed fine and the problem only occured after it had warmed a little and got worse as it went on.I then noticed that oil and fuel were leaking from the magneto/alternater screw hole,
When i tipped the bike over a little loads poured out with some little bits of metal, now im no mechanic but i reckon thats proper fubar'd.Is it dead or can i save it?!

Didn't the old ones have a problem with the stator coil or flywheel bit where it would fly off and smash up all the internals??

Yep, youve shed a magnet off the rotor. Best to replace with a '2nd generation' rotor, post '92. There is a difference in the later rotor ignition pickups, go search on the EX forums for the info.

Judging by your forum name, i imagine your GPZ is awesome, gimme a picture!

Should be VERY easy to find a post '94 flywheel, there's plenty of them out there. cheap, too.

i have taken off the alternater cover and 2/3rds of the magnet is spread out in various sized chunks all over the place!that clonking noise i had on start up was chunks getting caught in the starter cog and chain and jamming up,so me putting it in gear and rocking it was just breaking up the chunks, doh!
