FZR600 engine in the 400 is a common mod because the FZR600 is a steel framed bike, and the 400 has an alloy frame. An FZR 4/6 can be lighter and handle better than an FZR600 if set up properly.

An R6 engine won't fit I don't think.

There might even be an engine mount kit available to buy on ebay. You do need the FZR600 ignition and carbs though, so it has the potential to cost a lot. There are threads all over the place on different forums on the conversion. It isn't an easy task, but as conversions go its about as straightforward as it gets.

I think there is a FZR400 with a 600 engine in it on ebay atm.

As said above, it's one of the easier engine swaps.

These guys will know exactly what can be done and what can't:

Hi

Think the 600 engine bolts straight into the 400 frame. Quite a few bits on the 600 have 1WG (FZR400) model codes cast into them.

All the best

Keith

The top end mounts are in a different location. I think they are lower on the 6 than the 4 but you can buy adapter plates.

Hi

Might depend on the model of 400 and 600. Known a few people do the swap without the need for things like that (including into a Bimota YB7)

All the best

Keith
