D1, D2, ESP flashing

Have a 2001 Honda trx500fa. The drive display screen is flashing:

D1
D2
ESP

this is continuous with no discernible pause or sequencing.
Ive tried to reset by pressing the "up" "down" simultaneously while turning the key on, releasing and then selecting "up" "down" then advancing the throttle and releasing. I hear the sound of gears as I do this, but still get the flashing indication.

Some stuff I dragged off the net.

Turn key off. hold down on both up and down shift buttons. turn the key on then quickly release the buttons then press and hold them down. hold them down until the gear indicator begins to flash. then you can let go and observe.


Replace the angle sensor, if not check it.

Resync the computer. to do this. do the following. key off. hold down the up and down shift buttons. turn the key on and release the buttons, then press up, down, up. after doing that you will hear the control motor start to wind. at that time. slowly open the throttle to fully open, then slowly back it out all the way, do that within 5 seconds. if done right the N will show up on the gear indicator. then your done.
