Today i did ride a 1985 Yamaha RD 350 YPVS that has been stored after the first owner died.
It has got 3700 miles on the clock and looks brand new.
The last time it was ridden was 1987, i am the first person to ride it since then. it was a two wheeled timewarp.
Unfortunatly it doesn't belong to me,but has just been bought by one of my friends and he aint selling.
That story does look underwhelming up on the screen, but believe me it is a ride i wont forget in a hurry. ____________________ sup up your beer and collect your fags |

Good aren't they? The 350YPVS motor is probably the most underrated of all motorcycle engines. They can be tuned to really stupid levels of power, and are generally rock solid. Its just a shame that Yamaha put it into a flexy old steel cradle with spindly forks and 18" wheels.
I hope you were suitably careful with it, because two strokes that have been stored for years often have bottom end problems. This is because moisture gets into the open exhaust port and gets inside the bottom end of the engine causing rust. The only way this won't happen is if the bike was stored in a house where there is heating rather than a garage.
I still love my YPVS although I am very tempted to find a more appropriate frame for the engine... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

I was wearing jeans but i didn't have a paddock jacket to hand.I was singing 80s songs to myself though.
I did used to have a couple of 4LO LCs years ago and if i am being honest i prefer the power delivery of those, the powerband comes in a lot harder.
I never could get on with the handling on them though.
Maybe a 350 engine in an MZ frame would be fun
The bike had been stored in a heated garage and the owner is a mechanic so it's been checked over. I still took it easy and just gave her a bit of a squirt in third gear.
From the information i got the original owner died and the bike was passed on to someone else who never rode it, I did spare a thought for the original owner, i wonder if he was looking down on me approvingly, hope so. ____________________ sup up your beer and collect your fags |
