 |

Followup to my Sacramento question. I'm now looking at mooching around Irvine for a week as well (8th - 12th August).
Again, I'll be working office hours, and weekends will likely taken up with travel, so I'm just looking for ideas for evening activities.
My thoughts:
Rent a motorcycle. I've found a huge range available, anything from a Harley Davidson(R) Softtail(R) Classic(R) to a Harley Davidson(R) Electra(R) Glide(R). If anyone knows of anywhere near Irvine / South East LA that rents, you know, actual bikes, I'd be interested to hear about it.
Snip rifle, rooftop, take out a few gang bangers from a safe distance.
Hide under the bed in an air conditioned hotel room, compulsively reading Rudyard Kipling and dreaming about warm beer and cold rain. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I used to live in LA about 10 years ago, but never really ventured down to Orange county much, so I'm not so familiar with the area. Disneyland isn't far away from Irvine and IIRC, the whole LA/Orange county area has decent beaches.
Santa Monica is probably around 45mins/1hour depending on traffic (you can get heavy traffic anytime of day or night) and has all kinds of really cool entertainment going on at the beach, but most of it will probably be packing up at the end of the traditional working day.
If you fancy the touristy stuff, you can probably get to Hollywood in around an hour away depending on traffic. For the most part, Hollywood is full of wig shops, club wear, fast food placed and lots of shops selling cheap souveniers. However, the new Kodak theatre and shopping centre appears to be quite decent. Most shops etc. in the area are open until 10pm with some shops staying open to 2am (seriously)!!
The Griffith observatory is a popular spot for visitors and downtown LA can be quite cool to see at night, although there isnt actually much to do there.
West Hollywood is well known for its nightlife. You should be able to get a copy of LA Weekly from most newstands or the newspaper boxes which has details of events going on throughout the week.
I hope that gives you a few ideas anyway! |

Cheers, ginger, very helpful.

I said "actual", but I take your point that Harleys surely can't be much worse than every other bike made anywhere, ever.
Anyway, I've found places that rent Harleys, so I've got my last resort sorted. Any other suggestions? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
