Hi,

I've got two Daytona 600 engines sitting in my garage and I have no idea what to do with them. I don't think they're worth breaking because they were never that popular and I can't really restore them because I don't have the time, tools or talent. I doubt I could even sell them, would you buy an engine that's not been run for two years. I'll be honest, I'm not even sure if they would run.

So what do people do with old engines?

Stick it on eGay for 1p collection only or Freecycle them. Just be honest in the description.

+1 for ebay.

List/Describe them properly and they'll go for decent enough money. Thumbs Up

I suppose, someone can get a bargain from them so it's worth helping them out. My biggest issue is I genuinely don't have a clue if there's anything wrong. Suppose if I say that can't fault me for it.

I'll list it collection only, if someone turns up and doesn't like them for whatever reason nothing lost.

Cheers guys.

Whats up wth them? They are very similar on my s4 engine, if you just want rid ill take one for spares.

If they are fucked I doubt you will get much for them. I 'bought' a fucked tt600 engine on ebay for £2.20, I only wanted it for the camshafts so got the bloke to send the cams off and keep the rest.

If you arent fussed about getting any money for them you could always contact a local school or college, they might take them off your hands as useful tutorial aids.

I would try and get some cash out of them though first before going down that route.
(Or, you could build a coffee table Laughing )

Why did you acquire two 'old' motorcycle engines if you don't know what people 'do with old engines'?
I'm a little confused as to why you find yourself in this dilemma!

Fair question.

Bought one off eBay in an unknown condition for a few quid and took the clutch cover off it (I had scratched mine, new cover off ebay was more expensive than the whole engine with the cover on it) and then the second one was left over when I swapped my 600 engine for a 650 engine. Sold the bike with the 650 engine in it.

I'm sure at least one of the engines is good, but it's been sat in my garage for two years. Also, buggered if I know which engine is which now. Laughing

Sitting in the garage for 2 years won't harm it so long as it still turns over its probably still good for use.
Personally I'd stick them on ebay, must be worth a couple of hundred to someone.

No harm will have been done to the engines from standing idle inside a building unless it's for decades - I don't know why people think it might.

As for which is which - the one with the non-scratched clutch cover is the good one Smile

I've just stuck one on ebay 99p no reserve, got £31 for it.

He wanted the gearbox out of it.

Had been rusting away for last few months, no use to me, but one mans waste is another mans treasure.
