Hope this is the right forum to post this query in.

I need to fit a new rear tyre to the RXS100 as the tread has outlasted the side walls which are starting to split badly - when I received the tyre the shop ordered in it turned out to be a J rating (I think) which is good for about 62mph. I am fully aware that speedometers do not necessarily tell the absolute truth.

The bike is quick for a dinky bike and the speedo alleges it can reach 80mph indicated, and it will maintain an indicated 70mph plus for good distances if conditions aren't too crappy.

Firstly is an RXS likely to be capable of maintaining actual speeds of over 62mph or is my speedo likely to be telling bigger porkies than it really should? I know that the odometer is just as accurate as the ones on the other bike and on the car as it measures same distances for the same journeys - I don't know if this means the speedo is as reliable as can be expected or not.

And if this bike is able to maintain such actual speeds, would it be reasonable to want a tyre with a higher speed rating on an RXS? Seeing as that the tyres are the only thing between me and oblivion I'm inclined to be cowardly I mean cautious.

Cheers

It is not the correct tyre for your bike and as the tyre is rated too low for the technical top speed of your bike - might also be a MOT failure but I don't think so.

You'd be better off with something M or above

CBR125 had tyres rated for 83mph? Obviously it wouldnt hit that real world but the speedo has said 90 on some really really steep hills.

Didnt have an issue Laughing
