Ok guys I bought this GPZ400r 1985, it apparently has had the headgasket changed (don't know why) and hasn't run since Rolling Eyes
The lad said when it was apart the carbs were all out of sync, some open more than others and so he adjusted them which is what he thinks is wrong?
so far I have found....
gear lever is upside down so 1st is all the way up lol (fixed problem no 1 as he thought the starter solanoid was dodgy, it was actually between 5th and 6th not neutral)
oil has water in it as its gone white now I have been cranking it which may be a problem or may be from him when he did the gasket
, airbox has a bodged up top made from tin and the wiring looks like it was done by steevie wonder (alarm removal at a guess and in the process of fixing that)...
Soo I have a spark, checked with an old plug on top if the head and what seems like decent compression but no firing at all not even a backfire, even with tipping a bit of petrol down the intake past the carb rubbers.
I'm almost suspecting cam timing but have no idea what marks are where or anything.
all the dash appears to light up correctly and the rpm counter does move off the stop when cranking so I am assuming it is picking up a pulse (rpm counter also doubles up as a volt meter how cool is that )
any pointers guys are there any particular areas to start with do you think... oh the coils are wired so that the right one is 1+4 cyl and has a black switching wire is that right?

why do the front forks have a schrader valve on the right one? are they air assisted ?
enough questions for now I guess
cheers Jim Thumbs Up
