I would like to hear about your driving experiences when the M4 bus lane was in place.

Of course they did.
Slightly reduced travel times at the expense of fun.
No biggy that it's not there really.

From your site:

Quote:
· It smoothed out traffic flows, alleviating the bad bottleneck where the M4 narrows from three lanes to two
· It did not have a detrimental effect on surrounding road network

Safety- When the bus lane was in place it created a safer driving environment
· There was a cut in the speed limit from 70mph to 50mph

It didn't alleviate the bottleneck at all, it simply moved it a bit. The road still went from 3 lanes to 2, but did so further out (for all the people not allowed in the bus lane). There were also serious merging issues with vehicles from the lane merging back into the main flow where the lane ended.

The speed limit on that section is 60, not 50. It is still 60 with the bus lane not in use. It then drops to 40 to prepare for the reduction to 2 lanes.

Sure, as a biker I used the bus lane when it was there, but it really made no significant difference to my journey time as it isn't an issue for us to filter through traffic if there is a hold up.

It was slightly better but as taxi drivers did and still do get into the old bus lane even when the rest of the lanes are empty it causes congestion or makes people undertake. ]

Sort out the taxi's and you'll have an instant improvement.
