Hello. I'm trying to get back into bikes and started with a 1990 pre-diversion Yam XJ600. It ran for about a month and then nothing. It will turn over all day (well, until the battery has had enough) but will not start.

A friend had a look at it and found no spark and after a quick look around said it might be the CDI. I foolishly bought another one but there's still no spark or attempt to fire up. After spending on this I need to make sure I'm buying the bits I really need next time!

I've had a look through the Haynes manual and started taking readings but thought I'd try here first to see if anyone else has had this problem and can point me at the right bits to sort out.

Any help is really appreciated. I am not a mechanic and will not be offended if you use real simple explanations!

Thanks for reading and hopefully giving the clueless a clue!
Andy

Cheers for the reply.
I remember him saying that it wasn't the leads as it would be very unusual for all of them to pack in at the same time.
The bike had been running ok for about a month, which seems like good news. I came home on it one afternoon and I had no reason to think there was anything wrong. The next morning it just kept turning over but would not catch. It was left til the weekend when my mate could have a look and that's about it. No spark on 1 and 4, the easy one's to get at, and no fun for me.

I've since got the side case off, though I don't really know what I'm looking at but trying to figure out what pick up points are and do you adjust them or replace. I can see a load of copy coils in a clean case. I've got a picture but am I allowed to post on here?
Any help really appreciated.
Andy
