aprilia rs 50 2007 main lights

Hello all I have an aprilia rs 50 2007 and its main light dosen`t work :S my dad has hooked them both up so they are both on all the time.
My dipped works but when i click for full they would both go off, then click for low the dipped will come on. It has been fine for the past 10mouths but now i need an mot and need to fix it can someone help is it an earth problem? thank you

Sounds like the wire to the main beam might be shorting out somewhere. Check the wiring loom for damage or any signs of chafing, esp around the headstock. Might also be worth undoing the handlebar switch and making sure there's no broken wires or contacts inside.
