Does anyone have a link to a document showing the current measurements of the mod 1 test? I'm sure this must have been asked loads of times but google didn't come up with anything. Thanks Very Happy

You can download the layouts at https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_178328 but there are no measurements.

I believe the slalom cones are 4.5m apart, the figure of eight cones 6m apart and the U turn 7.5m.

Don't know any of the other measurements I'm afraid. The DSA seems to want to keep them secret Very Happy More probably, because they have changed the order of the test recently, they just haven't updated yet.

Yes I found those diagrams but not a lot of use without measurements.

Thanks for those figures though, they are useful. Is there a maximum distance that you can go on the outside of the figure of eight cones?

I was also told that the swerve test the cones are 10m from the speed trap. I don't know what the sideways offset is though.

Just researching this and although its a bit old this thread, tought i should update for anyone else researching too.

the DSA download of the layouts has the measurements on page 3 of the layout. i think the figures quoted above are also right.

good luck passing everyone Thumbs Up

Practice your U-turn in a Supermarket car park. (if you're going the no lessons route)

Roughly give yourself 2 and a 1/2 parking spaces to do it and when you get to the test center you will think you have a freakin football pitch to U-turn in Laughing

You get loads of room, more than enough to U-turn in.

Worth practicing the slalom between parking spaces as well, you get more at the test center so it would seem easier.

Anyway, that's how I did it and I was amazed at the space I had to what I actually practiced with. Thumbs Up

i have just returned from an hour of my own tuition doing exactly that, except on an industrial estate.
found a side road that is 7 paces wide, so i reckon thats under 7m.
paced out 4.5m roughly and its about 1 and half car parking spaces, so just made some small piles of stones for the cones, figure of 8 ones i did the same thing.

only a foot down once during about twenty attempts, so not too bad.

I'll be back for some more free practice before my test! Very Happy

When I passed my MOD1 on the 125 I found the u-turn easy...
I looked up the turning radius of the bike, was 2.5m, so assuming full lock I could do it in 5m... 2.5m to spare!

I now want to do it again on my CBR600, but the turning radius is 3.3m! So 6.6m only leaves me 90cm extra.

Taking into account that I can't just 'jump to' full lock, I think it'll be a close call...

Lots of practice needed this time!

That's still a whole yard you've got spare, Imperial units always make things seem less scary that that bloody French Metric crap.
