Hi all, just a quick one,

Was wondering if you can use that Red - X stuff that you put in your fuel tank in cars, for bikes?.

It's supposed to clean the injectors but didn't know if it's just for car's.

Has anyone used it and if so did it do anything??

There's no reason why it wouldn't work on a bike, aside from the fact that it'll achieve precisely fuck all. Seriously: you won't see any difference.

Yeah loads of people use it but I've never actually seen any kind of effect, so I'm not convinced. I've never seen it have an effect in a car either.

Don't think there's any reason why not. The fuel companies will tell you it's totally unecessary, the fuel already has the additives in it at the refining stage, then again you'll always find an enthusiast who will swear his Super Sludge, which previously did 5 gallons to the mile, has, since using this additive or that additive, now does 353 1/2
miles to the gallon. Just a matter of personal preferance. The only additive I ever used was a lead substitute as leaded petrol was being phased out.

It will work just as well in a bike as a car, ie it will do nothing at all.

Car or bike, makes no difference. I've used it, but only as a direct carb cleaner. I don't really think it works very well by simply poring it into the fuel tank.

Don't see why not. Helped cure a bit of slightly rough running on an old gpz a while back. I generally use a bottle with the first few tankfuls in a new bike, but then again I'm easily fooled by snake oil.

REDEX. REDEX.

I bought a bottle before fro the GPZ and tried it, never made much difference, but i only use a squirt of it.

Yesterday morning i filled the tank on the GSX and emptied a bottle into the tank by accident.

Never got to see any difference, but here's hoping it locked up and smeared the scum who nicked it's face.

Laughing

tl;dr don't use it, it's pointless, and it's redex, not red-x. Thumbs Up

Its good for a internal clean. Out with plugs and pour some in. Turn enging with rags over plug holes a couple of times and leave it half a hour. Go back and pump rest out with turning engine, plugs back in and away you go. Smokes like fuck for a few miles.

Nope. Did it in cars many a time. Once in an old CX500. Doubt you need to bother now as fuel has more cleaners in it than it did in the 80s.

Redex is mostly paraffin.

Paraffin is denser than petrol so settles and helps shift water from float bowls.

Cheaper to just chuck some paraffin or meths in your tank.

I tend to use a bottle of the stuff when i buy an old bike whose fuel system i'm unsure about. Chucking some in has never caused and ill effects so for a quid i don't see a problem.

If i' just bought a 2 year old bike though i don't think i'd bother.

My TLR has a ‘cough’ every now and then. About once or twice a ride, usually when i’m pulling away. I think one of the injectors might have a bit of muck at the nossle.
A guy that everyone locally takes their Ducati’s and twins to, said that he didn’t ever consider redex or fuel additives but he suggested to a guy with a very minor problem and it sorted it.

I had a blocked jet on my 1200bandit, chucked redex in and ran it for a bit to get it into the carb's and left it. cleared the carb's and all hunky dorey, I've found it to work for things like this in the past and I didn't drain the fuel last winter and the fuel went sticky so it was running a bit rough on the low end, in March I chucked a load of redex in again and left it a day or two and cleared that like a dream. But each to their own.

I had a blocked idle jet, just put a bit in the tank and left the bike idle-ing for a while (keeping an eye on temperature).. sorted !

You ought to go on yank forums. All they ever do is bleat on about "SeaFoam" All it is, is a petroleum distillate/solvent blend. To hear them you'd think it was the elixir of life.

Redex is just a gimmick from experience, most cleaning the fuelling systems get on my bikes aside from the pertrol itself flowing through them is a spray with Chemtool on the carbs or Isopropanol (which isn't supposed to clean just prevent carb icing but it leaves a nice ish shine after use I find) tbh I only use that stuff because i'm a paranoid git and I get it cheap, engines and fuel systems rarely need cleaning with solvents or whatever just a clean rag and abit of a rub down should be enough really.
