PostPosted: 17:18 - 11 Jul 2011    Post subject: Telling grandparents about 'smoking' Reply with quote

Well I'm a weed lover, mainly because it helps with my joint pain (which many doctors and the hospital can't pin-point to anything specific) and it helps me sleep as i have big issues with sleep.

They just went away for 2 weeks and i got to have a smoke when i wanted and loved it because i slept properly always fresh and awake next day, i had 0 pain for 2 weeks it was like heaven (and of course enjoying having a good smoke).

Now i live with my grandparents for personal reasons (ill etc.) so won't go into that, there quite with the times but are quite anti-drug, i want to tell them i smoke it but worried what they will say or do, i never smoke it in the house always out in the back-yard so I'm not hurting anyone or smelling up the house.

Was hoping for some advice on what to do as only other person who knows is my mum but she smokes it too.

wasn't all too sure how to word all this so sorry if its a bit confusing but fed up with not being able to sleep and fed up with being in pain and taking pain killers which just make me feel properly sheit (tried lots of different pain killers none seem to work all that well) so any advice welcome please.

Need to break it to them gently so any help with how to word it etc. or even bring it up.

Thanks.

P.S. just on a side note, i think they might have some idea as i brought a eighth back with me one night after a drunken night out and with my genius drunken mind i thought it would be a good idea to hide it behind a empty fag packet in the empty utility, came down next morning it was gone.

Why tell them unless they specifically ask ? Sounds like you've managed this far, so why rock the boat...

Because all day I'm in a dull aching pain, i can only sneak out for a smoke at night so I'm stuck all day like i said they went away on holiday recently and it was heaven now there back I'm back to suffering.

Not like i could roll up in my room and go downstairs and just smoke either because of the smell.

Hello

I don't know how important the smoking part is to you........

If it were me I would probably consider making some cakes/brownies or whatever, and trying them out (apologies if you have already tried this).

If the smoke inhalation aspect bothered me I would check out the possibility of vapourisers although I know that they can be ridiculously expensive.

All the best

OK, well I guess this advice is relevent to all of your generation as well as you.

Your generation did not invent drugs.

I am pretty sure your grandparents ( what late fifties/early sixties) probably know more about drugs than you do.especially this one.

As for the joint pain, do you want it fixed on a long term basis or are you happy with your risky compromise?

Just sit them down, make sure they are comfortable. Tell them that they have a junky grandson, nick your Nan's purse and go buy some more weed.
I'm sure they will understand. Thumbs Up

Well rpm, i don't buy it all that often i don't smoke that much, but smoke inhalation isn't a big part but i do smoke so it's just easier i guess.

Well my grandad has told me he has tried it before but wasn't his thing (years ago) my gran has never tried it she never got into that whole scene back in the day.

Yes i do want my joint pain fixed long term, I'm borderline harassing my doctor every week for appointments and trying to get it sorted (had it since i was very little), i know its a risky solution (well not THAT risky, as risky as smoking) but it works better than any painkillers i have ever taken and what works I'm sticking with till they fix me.

Thanks for advice so far, need a way to approach them about it rather than trying to avoid it.

Also skudd no real need for that was there, it's pretty much the least harmful drug its not like I'm shooting up needles or doing harder stuff so hardly a junkie!

Thank you for that, will definitely get that checked out, fall into almost all them categories so will have to go to the doctors and see what they say about it.

But yeah i smoke 1-2 spliffs of a night time just to help me sleep, relax and be pain-free.

Well thanks again for that will get it looked into!

Well thought i would edit this, just got up the courage to tell my grandparents, told my gran on her own and she had nothing to say to it really so not sure if thats bad or not but we shall see, thanks for the advice though guys and big big thanks for sharing your information on the autism thing.

My favorite weed memory was visiting my 80 year old godmother with an 8th in my jacket pocket, her walking past me and sniffing the air and saying "that smells good, could I nick a joint?"

50s beatnik apparently!

That's nothing, the National Undertakers Society reckon there's over 60 million undiagnosed dead people in the country.

I have severe joint issues in my wrist, ankels, hips, elbows, fingers and big toes. I dont smoke weed every day to get around it, I just live with it like 95% of people do.

Whilst I have no issue with the consumption of weed Mr. Green I don't think you should upset your grandparents by telling them. Especially if you've been smoking on their property which BTW means that they can be prosecuted as well. You've lived with it for the last x number of years why cant you live with it a few more? Or, if they are none the wiser, roll them up before you get home, put them in a fag packet and put that in a ziplock bag 'So they don't get wet while your riding' then go out and smoke one at night.

Alternatively, go to the doctors and try and get some strong pain killers.

EDIT: Just saw that you told them. Hope it all works out ok...

I offered (via my mum) to make a few spliffs for my Gran, as I reckon it'd have helped with quite a few of the symptoms she had.
However, as a set-in-her ways ex-magistrate, she wasn't interested.

Glad it went not too badly for you - presumably you could keep it fairly subtle anyway - having a spliff in the back of the garden etc. Don't shove it in their faces, but also make it clear you don't turn in to a kitten-killing-monster and hopefully you'll get more acceptance over time.

Well thanks for the wise words guys, they spoke to me today and said its fine as long as its in the back garden, there not too bothered, they are pretty 'with the times' grandparents so all went well Thumbs Up and its not like i keep a ton of the stuff in the house to warrant a raid or something is only a small amount.

As said before about dealing with my problem Ive been to the doctors many times for powerful pain killers they always hesitate to give me anything too strong (because I'm younger i guess) and when they do they don't really work and if its a constant pain that i struggle to walk 200 yards round the corner to the shop without being in severe pain in my joints from my hips down then i think i need something to help Smile

But again thanks guys! Thumbs Up

Your GP has a budget. To find out what your problem is, he needs to brake that budget. (tests, scans etc...)
I know it is disgusting but this is how the system works.

You may show up in a wheelchair and get yourself sorted though.

Pain is a funny thing, I destroyed my right hip over three years ago in a crash and have been in pain ever since (a lot of the damage was done previously due to kickstarting high compression beasts of bikes but the big off finished things).
I thank the pain for a lot of fun it has given me, having your leg give way in front of year 8 or the head teacher is funny as hell. I quite enjoy limping and cycling for 25 miles when you can feel bone rubbing on bone is a life affirming experience.
After thee years it has become a bore, I want to get my life back so I am down for replacement surgery this month.
I take no pain killers, it is my pain and I have chosen to live with it rather than take drugs. As a 1960s art school boy I know a bit about drugs, take care with the weed.

As somebody who would agree with your grandparent's opposition to drugs (and then some - not going to preach), I'm going to make the following suggestion.

Find a way to use it other than smoking, because smoking sticks the place out and that's not fair on your grandparents. Drug-cakes seem a better & fairer option.

Well thanks for the be safes and be responsible guys, as always in moderation like with anything i know not to go nuts Thumbs Up

The smelling the house out isn't an issue because i smoke it in the back garden so there's no way smell could get into the house so no worries about that.
